So I figured that this would be a good place to talk about the options for watching the games this season. I heard rumors that DirecTV was going to make the NHL Center Ice package free but I think that may be more wishful thinking than reality since they don't own the rights to the games and it would have to be agreed on by all of the networks. I haven't heard anything yet about what the cost for GameCenter Live will be.

So I open it to you guys. Heard anything? I sure as fuck won't be shelling out the whole cost for the season and I think even paying half will be hard to pull from my wallet after the crap this league has pulled.

I haven't heard anything yet, but I think making Center Ice free for the remainder of the year would be a very pragmatic strategy to ensure that middle of the road fans get re-engaged right away, and also to get new fans into the mix who wouldn't otherwise even consider paying for Center Ice. It would also serve as a small "we're sorry" to the true fans.

However, after the last few months of all this bullshit, let's face it, there's no reason to believe the league will make any thoughtful, informed, big-picture decisions.

I haven't heard anything yet but we called Shaw Direct yesterday to find out if/when they would have the codes for programming and they are still waiting for programming info just the same as the rest of us. As for making it free, XC brought up a good point on the twiters recently that the league doesn't own Center Ice. On Demand (?) does so it would be up to them as to what cost fans will be paying.

No chance in hell we're eating the full price of the package this season and if that is the case, I have an HDMI cable to hook the laptop to our TV. I'll just stream the games with pirated feeds before paying full price. Anyone else looking for feeds, I'm sure we'll be able to track them down and pop'em in the GDT's as always.

Good god I'm looking forward to posting during games again! :D

Aud is right. The NHL has little to no say over what inDEMAND, the company that owns Center Ice does as far as pricing. Here is a link to an article with a few particulars. http://www.sbnation.com/2013/1/6/384310 ... ant-happen

According to the article though the NHL has control over where they price the GameCenter Live so maybe they will do the right thing and give us fans a substantial break if they don't go the full monty and make it free this year.

Free center ice? What are you guys smokin? We just lost half the season because some Billionaires couldn't come to terms with a bunch of Millionaires about how to whack up the crumbs. There's no chance they're giving anything away for free if they have a say in it.

They steal half a season, I steal half a season. I will stream via my playstation on my HD tv through European feeds.

It sucks, but I'll probably pay whatever they're asking for center ice...I need my games reliably and on the big screen so I can TiVo them.
Most games start while I'm still at work :/

Yeah, I'm with you here. Recording games is a must when they start at 4 PM. Plus I'm not sure I could handle the lower quality of an internet feed.

Sigh...yeah, i'm not gonna deprive myself of the remainder of the season just to send some message to somebody who isn't listening anyways. And the DVR option is a must.

Alright, i'm gonna guess that they'll charge $129.95 for the 'full' season. Direct TV says they'll have pricing/ordering available soon.

I'll be using streams unless Gamecenter Live is of a greatly reduced price.

Helene Elliott (Kings beat writer) is reporting Center Ice will cost 4 payments of $14.99 this year.

When I asked about GCL pricing, Jo Innes (Backhand Shelf blogger) said the prevailing rumor is it'll be free. I don't buy that, but who knows.

If GCL ends up being free I would have a hard time understanding CI being 60 bucks. I mean, I wouldn't be surprised for them to try and make a buck but I think with GCL being free a lot of fans would laugh at paying for CI.

Has anyone tried to call and get CI yet? Is it available to order now that the schedule's been released?

/Was going to call today but life happened

We called today to see if Shaw Direct had it yet, but no dice. I'll see if I can find the link, but some providers may be offering it for free. Shaw was rumored to be one of them, apparently the league is trying to work out a deal with In Demand for the rest of the season, in hopes it will cause more fans to sign up for it next year.

See if I can linky...

EDIT: Ok, so it was on the HFboards, take it for what it's worth..

The NHL intends to offer Center Ice free of charge if they can make agreements with the cable/satellite carriers.

in DEMAND is the USA cable partner for distribution of Center Ice which is owned by Comcast, Cox Communications, Time Warner Cable, and Bright House Networks.

Comcast is leading the charge for a free season in the hope that people will get hooked and buy next year. Comcast will make it available for free on their systems.

This does NOT include DirecTV at the moment but the NHL has sent signals that NHL GameCenter will be free for this season.

The NHL knows at this point that no sports-bar will sign on now for Center Ice but by making it available for free now they can expect good sales for 2013-14.

In Canada, Rogers, Bell, Shaw and Cogeco have signed off on this.

Bettman, Daly and Jacobs are NOT stupid. It spoke volumes that Jacobs went on camera saying "We are sorry"

The cable providers have a huge hand in how CI is handled, so the NHL doesn't have total governance over how it's run.

And content streaming is still new and unusual for a lot of traditional cable customers. I know plenty more people who consider CI a better option than GCL despite all the benefits (like viewing four games at once. JIZZ).

unverified rumor: CI on DTV for 4 payments of $14.99. You can't order it until on the 19th. If that's true, I'm all over it for only $60!

I've seen that as well in a couple places where well placed DirecTV employees regularly leak that stuff. I'd say you can bank on that being true.

A buddy of mine just informed me he ordered CI today for $50.00 (He's with Bell Sat.)

Just called Shaw and their wait times are around 30 min, so I arranged for a call back. Hope they're offering the same or something close to that.

Around $1.00 per game? Sign me up!

FWIW I called Time Warner today and they said CI is still listed as TBD due to the lockout, no pricing yet and you can't order it yet.
