Jochen Hecht did not make the final roster for Team Germany. He is placed on the reserve list though. Sabres prospect Philip Gogulla (Portland) is nominated to play for Team Germany in Vancouver.

I don't really care, but that's a little odd. How many other players were snubbed by their country for a player that's on the minor league club of that player's team?

???

Yes I don't understand this decision either. Uwe Krupp (played for the Sabres from 1986 to 1992) has placed Schubert (former Senator, now Thrasher) on the reserve list, too.

oh, I was looking for this in "General Hockey".

Yeah Phil and I were going on about this on facebook...I was wondering if Hecht will pull a Samuelsson and tell the German hockey guys to go fuck THEMSELVES.?

That's ridiculous. Hecht, despite all his faults, might be the best German hockey player in the world (kind of like being the best white running back in the NFL). He is actually having a good year, too.

Gogulla? Really?

I think Marco Sturm is better than Hecht. ;) Marcel Goc is also having a fine year in Nashville, Seidenberg plays well, too. Greiss played very solid for the Sharks. Ehrhoff is also having a terrific year in Vancouver. There are some good players from Germany and these players are circa at the same level as Hecht. I love your NFL-comparison, though. Gave me a good laugh. :D

Sturm is definitely a producer and a key component, with the Bruins. His was the first name that came to mind. And Ehrhoff, as you mentioned - Great season in the making.

Wow... pretty strong opinion there.

Gogulla over Hecht is interesting. Sturm definitely belongs there, but Goc over Hecht is more confusing to me.

How many German forwards are better than Hecht period? That's just weird.

poor Jochen. That's kinda like a shot to the nads with one of the Sabres Minor League players getting picked over him. Hecht has actually been having a better year this season IMO. He's been more sound defensively and has been pretty decent on the forecheck. He's no star, but I think he's deserving of being put on that roster.

If Hecht wasn't playing better this year, I'd say that maybe the Germany is a step ahead of Darcy.

This, however, is complete bullshit. Looking at their roster I don't see how Hecht isn't playing.

Maybe Jochen will play better after being snubbed by own country. He has something to prove now. He hasn't been the same player since he signed his new contract. He was on the cusp of getting 20 goals for 3 or 4 years in a row, then finally hit 20, signed a new contract, and fell in line with the other guys with new contracts not living up to expectations (Connolly, Pommers, etc.)

I have a hard time believing it - Maybe Jochen slept with Uwe's wife or something?
