Not that impressive of a performance, but I wouldn't expect their best in the first game after one practice.

Let's hope they polish up in time for Canada.

The Swiss played the trap for the first two periods, and then opened up a little while the US played back in the third. SUI had about four very good scoring chances, missed on one that definitely should have been a goal, and scored on a weak chance that Miller actually deflected past himself. The chippy ice didn't help much either so there are lots of reasons to think the US can play a better game.

Switz was a very tough team, but they were playing Against Hiller who is still a very decent goalie.

They played them tough at least from what I saw in the first.

i sold out and watched this game with a friend, there was nothing else to do.

sadly, team USA wont medal. that team isnt very good. if the swiss hit the net (miller didnt overall impress me, but he found a way to win. kudos) and converted on the odd-man rushes, the swiss would have won. the only way the US will medal is if miller absolutely STEALS a few games, and i mean, him against the world. a 5th to 3rd place finish is what im leaning on, and i think the bronze is a longshot. ah well, its one game. see how she plays out.

Yeah, being overly critical of team defense after one game without a full team practice is pretty absurd.

Team Canada, the chosen ones of this tournament, didn't to shit during the first period of their game.

The NHL loaded teams need a game or so to get into a groove.

all the teams have the same adjustment period. its a, what? 12 day tournament? all the teams go through the same process, and it seemed USA was very very lacking.

Yes, but before that game Team USA had only one practice time. They will gel together soon enough, especially today since they can have a good practice time.

Canada was ling juggling to find chemistry all night also. They came out lackluster in the first but finished them when a few players found some great chemistry with each other.

Russia wasn't too spectacular, especially later in the game, they came out strong but seemed to lose a bit of their momentum during the third even though they won the game soundly, they have plenty of flaws in their team defense also.

Not all teams have the same adjustment period. Switzerland has been together as a team for months. I don't know that the US will medal, but I do think they will improve in subsequent games. Also, keep in mind that the Swiss beat the Czech Republic and shut Canada out the last Olympics. They're a dangerous, disciplined club.

Basically, but USA got better as the game went on and that is what these teams need to do.

Switerland knew the only way they would beat any of the favorites is to come out hitting hard and strong. Plus like ham said these teams with little to no NHL players on them have been together for months practicing and playing together.

That is a reason why the Red-Army teams were so good, they had played together for months out of the year and together always.
