I'm playing and watching football as long as I can remember and I think it's just dumb to not use video replay at the highest level of this sport. The problem is the age of the decision makers in the FIFA. The rule comission consists of some guys from England who are 70+ years old.
I think they shouldn't announce video replay on the big stage, they should just use it. The referees are using headsets, so there should be one refferee in the stadion with a TV (not next to the field) and in case of blatant wrong calls like yesterday, he can tell the referee on the field goal or no-goal, offside or onside within a few seconds and the the call can be overruled without everyone knowing it was video replay.

Fouls and penalties shouldn't be reviewed as long as there is so much space for interpretation. It would stall the game and lead to too many breaks. They just need to take some pressure of the referees with video support.

The Netherlands are diving all over the place today. An effort worthy of a Razzie award for sure. They made a horrible defensive mistake to allow the 1st goal, and then Brazil gave them a gift to tie it up.

It's a great match-up, but it's been played pretty badly so far on both sides. I'm still hoping The Netherlands win, but I won't take much pleasure out of it.

Felipe Melo - first he gets in his own keeper's way and causes The Netherlands 1st goal, then he looses his cool and steps on Robben for an obvious red card.

I guess he'll be shot soon after the team returns to Brazil.

But not far away. Besides, I said "shot", not "shot and killed". Maybe he'll just get shot in the leg.

What a crazy finish to the Uruguay - Ghana match. That was high drama.

I started out rooting for Uruguay, but in the end I was rooting for Ghana. I love an underdog. Sucks that one guy couldn't make the penelty kick at the end of the game for Ghana to win. Stupid crossbar

That last PK goal by the Uruguay player was the most savy, ballsy-est, PK attempt I've ever seen. Take a look...fast forward to 1:00 to view all the PKs, fast forward to 2:05 to see the last PK, fast forward to 2:25 to watch all the Ghana players crying...

I've always loved that move, although you usually only see it from some dude late in the rotation, they've seen the keeper consistently moving left and right before the shot even comes, it's a pretty safe bet putting it straight ahead. Still cheeky as hell though.

MAN that game was intense, Gyan must feel like the lowest piece of shit ever, I think if he'd just taken a minute to compose himself he'd have had that shot no problem.

Ghana deserved that win, and by the end I was rooting for them as well. Suarez had the single best play of the game with that handball on the goal line, absolutely no option at the last minute of extra time like that.

Stunningly awesome game.

Yes, Suarez was as low as anyone could be, and then brought back up again. He did save the game, and did what he had to. As for today's match...

Bwahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!! All the petulant antics from Maradona, their classless players that chose to end their 2006 match with a fist fight, and their well over-confidant fans, have been put in their rightful place. Maradona and his talented but undisciplined team got soundly humiliated by "the ball boy" and a determined and masterfully efficient German squad. Here's a hint - don't get a tactical squad like Germany angry.

If Mueller could be on the podium when Maradona walks up, he should just turn his back and point to the name on the back of his jersey. Damn, a world cup match never felt so good as this one today!!! The only bad thing was the HORRENDOUS yellow card given to Mueller for a completely inadvertant hand-ball that actually was a shoulder ball. Earlier an Argentine player made a totally blatent hand-ball that he used his whole palm to knock down...no card issued! Due to an earlier yellow against England, Mueller (their best player) will have to sit out against Spain/Paraguay. It's a near criminal ruling that should be overturned. If ever there was a reason to reverse a card, that play is the definition.

My miracle match-up of Netherlands vs Germany is alive!!!

FIFA to determine Suarez ban.

Really, a handball is a multi-game suspension offense? That's like giving a suspension for puck over the glass or something.

I think it's the politics of the last team on the host continent being eliminated by an intentional hand-ball at the goal line. The rules say the suspension can be "at least one match" but it hardly ever is more than one. It was an especially egregious hand-ball (denying a winning goal), but anybody in Saurez' desperate situation would've done the same thing.

Well, it would be under the 'unsportsmanlike conduct' that he could be banned for more than one game. the handball/red card only gets him one game missed. And hell, almost anything can be put under the term 'unsportsmanlike' if the governing body wants to fuck with someone.

Still, play of the game, and absolutely the correct decision.
