The NFL is experimenting with the Pro Bowl, making it the warm up to the Super Bowl.

Did anyone watch? (I didn't)

40% of the original players selected didn't play. I'm assuming that none of the players from the two Super bowl teams played. Gosh, do you think the two best team in the NFL might have some of the best players in the league?

Just saying.

Having gone to the game, I disagree. It was a fun spectacle with a great atmosphere as part of Super Bowl week festivities, compared to the usually unwatched, forgotten and unbearably pointless game in Honolulu. The overnight ratings bore that out, too, getting an absolutely enormous 7.9 share, bigger than even the Orange Bowl, and the attendance had record 70,000 fans packing the stadium.

In Honolulu they can't get a half filled stadium, and the ratings are virtually invisible.

The game will always be worthless, of course, it's the nature of football being a violent sport playing a meaningless exhibition... but it certainly was a lot bigger and better of a show this way.

The game is too meaningless to make it as a stand-alone, but lumped into the Super Bowl pomp-and-circumstance gave it a whole added dimension. While nobody cares who wins, seeing 70,000 fans carry on a double-deck wave for about 20 laps was damn impressive.

Jets flying overhead, the all-star cheerleaders, the players joking on the field with the mascots during the game, the fans of all different loyalties wearing their jerseys and sharing a rare fan experience without the tribal warfare, all the Super Bowl Experience exhibitions in the lot surrounding the stadium, playing under the night lights, inexpensive tickets...it really was fun.

The game is secondary. Kind of like the Hall of Fame Game...by itself it would be a no interest scrimmage, but because it's associated with the Hall of Fame ceremony it becomes a much bigger event to fans and observers. Same with this, only on a bigger scale.
