I was watching PTI or something like it a couple days ago and their comments made me think. they were talking about the olympics and brought up shaun white and how, even if you know nothing about snowboarding, you can just tell that hes the best.

well i was thinking about what other athletes would "qualify" for this. the people that first come to mind would me like Lebron and Ovi.

who do you guys think is the best of the best in their respective sports?

Payton Manning and Tom Brady.

Crosby, even though we hate him.

...where did you get Cabrera and Ichiro from? especially Cabrera? Pujols and Lincecum sure. when you watch them you can tell that they are heads above everyone else but the other two have me dumbfounded. yes, Ichiro is an incredible player and one of the best contact hitters in baseball but when i watch him i dont think "hes destroying the other team." while i know thats harder to do in baseball the most other sports, i just dont see it with Ichiro or Cabrera.

ichiro is the fastest player in the MLB. and by alot. he also has the strongest arm in baseball. shocking, considering how small he is, but his arm is first rate.

cabby is a .340 hitter with extra base power to all fields. hes the second best first basemen in the MLB, to pujols, who is just amazing. both of them are future hall of famers. (cabbys numbers are comparable to henry aaron) and cabby is outstanding at his position.

i can go position to position if youd like, i know baseball like the back of my hand. i live for it.

thats all fine and dandy but the point of this was try to figure out who people with no knowledge of the sport would recognize as being the best of the best.

since when is Cabrera a .340 hitter? he hit .339 one year with Florida other then that his career average .311 which, while good, isnt phenomenal. he averages 32 hrs a year, 63 walks with 117 strikeouts and 174 hits a season. hes a good player for sure, but not nearly as good as you are making him out to be.

when you said second best 1B in baseball, were you referring to offensive capabilities or over all?

ummm... its close. i feel texiera is better defensively, but not that much. but cabby is much MUCH better offensively. so id say overall. maybe its the homer in me, but i believe it. the baseball love in me says it.

Well with no knowledge of a sport, people are going to think the best player is the most hyped one.

Currently:
Lebron James
Sidney Crosby
Dale Earnhardt jr.
Peyton Manning
Alex Rodriguez

moving alex rodriquez to 3rd was retarded. he was an outstanding shortstop. much better then the asshole playing it now. should have moved jeter to third, where he wouldnt have to cover more ground. jeter has the arm to play third.

because hes a yankee. we dont like the yankees round these parts. they are hated. between them and the white sox, its sheer hatred.

its nothing beyond that (we already had the overrated discussion, and it led to hurt feelings. lets not do that again, unless its not a heated discussion)

man, enough of this cliff lee shit. he was demoted to AAA ball in 2007 for crying out loud. he had a great 08 season, and a good 09 season. hes still, in reality in terms of his ability and pitch variety, a #3 pitcher. he doesnt over power you, he doesnt have GREAT control, and his stuff doesnt move THAT much. why he had such a great 08 season, i have NO idea.

I know why: he took his Bowflex bar on his hunting trips. He would stick it between two trees and do pull-ups and curl-ups and shit. Honest to God this is a true story.

that honestly wont help your pitching. it wont make your pitches move anymore.

:shifty: I heard it once during an Indians game. One of the most random things I've ever heard. I thought maybe that was the answer. Like having a better core.
