How dare they compare him to Don Cherry.

If the States had someone as cool as Cherry who called them Euro trash, I wouldn't think anything of it.

But because it came out of Milbury's mouth, it was lame.

It's unacceptable no matter who the person is. Don Cherry has hated on Russian and European players for over 20 years, and just has never let the term slip out on air.

Like it or not, the European players are a solid base of the NHL talent's pool, and shouldn't be referred to in such a way

I'm not trying to get very deep into this one, but Ovechkin didn't look like he was playing the so-called "eurotrash" game when he plowed right through Jagr, leading to a Russian goal.

People could have said Canada played uninspired hockey against the USA, but nobody used the term "western trash" game. Fact is Russia had a weak defense and forwards that are thinking 100 mph toward the o-zone. That's a recipe to get burnt the other way all game long. It doesn't have anything to do with lack of effort of lack of physicality. Russia just wasn't as good, period.

It was sarcasm. :D ;)

Honestly, the Canadians are so intense, I don't think any of them give a shit when he trashes the Russians.

I could be wrong though. I don't want to speak for anybody.

Well the Russians did peel off more than they finished their checks. The Russians shot them selves in the foot by never knowing where our Canadian players were. None of them picked up the extra man. And there is no way you can say Canada played uninspired against the US. We dominated most of the game, but we did play a little too fancy.

If we're going to be totally honest, I must admit that I laughed my ass off at that comment! I know, not PC...but still, I thought it was hilarious so sue me!

To me, the most idiotic part of what Milbury said was when he was badmouthing Semin for doing his best Kaleta imitation on Boyle. It was a great hit! Boyle was a baby and did the ol' slew foot (another example of why fighting actually keeps the game safer), so if anything Milbury should have ranted against him for acting like a douche, not Semin.

Look at the guy behind Milbury after he says it. He looks as shocked as anyone else.

It's almost like a different game over there. Peeling off from checks is a very popular move a lot of the Euro countries have been doing.

Euro hockey is like golf.
North American hockey is like golf with kaleta flying around trying to injure the golfers.
Looks very similar...but not really.

That is not to say they don't hit. Switzerland looked tough at times and of course the Major players like Ovechkin hit from time to time.

Don't stand behind the comment on national TV, though. Gotta account for the people who can't take it.

And just remember. Don't feel bad for the people that were "hurt" by the comment. There is plenty of American hating groups in Europe.

No EH, I don't think Canada played uninspired against USA, I was just using that as an example. Russia got beat because their d-zone coverage sucked, and they never had a forward back to help after a turnover. When a team with european players looks bad and loses (NHL or Olympics) some people jump in with the "euro" bashing regardless of the circumstances. North American players can look bad and play soft games too but nobody has ever coined a phrase for it.

They call that the 'Toronto Maple Leafs Regular Season'.

Well I've yet to see team USA or team Canada so far this tournament not come out hard nosed and ready to play. I guess the ice does make a bit of a difference.

I would love to see Milbury get kicked off every network he is on for saying this.

A trashy comment it is, yes, but do remember, a public hanging of westerners would be acceptable in a few European countries.

And yes, I know the above statement is going way too far into it.

Just because there is a sensitive media in the US, doesn't mean there is overseas.

is europe like a third world continent to you, markus? i dont think there are any countries over there like that. yeah, the east side of the iron curtain is still pretty rough, but not that bad. as someone who lived in europe for a short time, i think your far far off.

Yeah I think the biggest issue is that Milbury was out of line because the Semin hit was all clean. There are some unsavory aspects to hockey that are more prevalent in Europe and in the KHL, just like there are some that are more prevalent in North America.

Milbury is wrong because it was a NAtrash play that Boyle had an issue with, good hard finished check, possibly a tad late by Semin. If anything, Boyle was more "eurotrash" there than Semin.

Again, I KNOW i'm going way too far with these comments, and am definitely not trying to start an argument...but...

It seems everyday there is a flag "over there" behind burnt because of some religious reason. And i'm not just talking the middle east, Eastern Europe has a lot of problems.

Think of it this way. 25 years ago, do you think anyone would have winced at a "eurotrash" comment? We are not that far removed from total hatred from those countries. They may be nice to visit...and granted I know not all of Europe is like this....but we are not that many years from totally hatred and war.

Sure we get a president that enjoys BJs, another redneck president that takes half his presidency as a vacation, etc....and it all makes us forget about the problems that other countries have because it's all eyes on us.

Don't get me started on the outsourcing of jobs...the new "global" economy which doesn't really work like that.

But just remember...this may be a sport...and life may seem like it's going to be peaceful forever, but we are less than 25 years removed from Total world ending war against some of these countries.

I am not a racist, of course I have euro decent in my blood (English, Italian and Irish) but I do not think one eurotrash comment is going to change the world.

Again, I know i'm going way too far with this. I just think some people need to think for a second before they conclude that all of these countries love us.
