WIth time running down and a 31-26 lead, Peyton Manning rolled out to his left to find no one between him and the end zone. Sprinting all the way down to the five, Manning then took a slide to run out the clock rather than gallop into the end zone. In an NFL where Brady is running up the score every chance he gets to pad stats, you gotta love Manning.

That is pretty classy I guess. But you know, Big Ben had a hot college chick in a bathroom and he didn't finish on her. So they are pretty much the same I think. Classy.

But he was accused of rape so that doesn't count.

Hahahaha, Manning is still my favorite of the two.

That's not totally in the 'don't run it up' department. It's a smart football play.

If he scores there, the clock stops. They have to kick it off, and the opponent can then have some measure of control over the time left. Since he did what he did, they dictated the clock.

There would have been no way to score 12 points in 0 seconds remaining Tom.

31-26, you score there, it's 37-26 without the extra point, and that is still 9 point difference and can not be made up no matter what.

Mine too, but I don't really try in the playoffs. It's harder to win a league over the course of the season than it is to win 2-3 random games.

I think a bigger part of it is getting three kneel downs, low intensity football plays, rather than having another 1:30 of full contact in which someone can get hurt.

Meh, given the accusations of Brady/belichick running up the score I'd say it's a relevant topic for discussion.

you mean to tell me manning played in any blow outs? like a 55-21 win where manning threw for 6 touchdowns in 2003?

or another 6 touchdown game winning 41-9 in 2004?

its professional football, not a self esteem building exercise.

also, manning donates to conservative politicians. boo-urns. ;)

There is no comparison between Brady and Manning when it comes to accusations. You can say what you want about whether running up the score is poor sportsmanship or not, but Brady does it a ton more than Manning.

How many of those TDs in that 55-21 game came in the fourth quarter? (zero)
How many in the 41-9 game came in the fourth quarter? (zero)

Brady has a ton of TD passes in 4th quarter blowouts. Just looking over the two most obvious years:
How many 4th quarter TDs did Brady throw in a 38-7 drubbing of the Bills in 2007? (one)
in a 34-13 defeat of the bengals with 3 minutes to go (one)
in a 52-7 defeat of the redskins when the score was 38-0? (one)
in a 45-3 win over the jets this year? (one)

Brady donates to the Catholic church...

i dunno what to tell you. if the defense cant stop you, thats their problem. if you arnt going to work a full game, get off the field.

Like I said, whatever your feelings are on that particular aspect of sports, the fact is that Brady faces criticisms because of it more often than Manning.

this is the pros, not little league. if a team wants to run up the score, let them. if and when it happens to them, and they complain, then call it not classy.

they're paid to play, not take it easy on the other team. do you think the houston oilers backed off a little bit in 92 when the bills had a backup quarterback in and they had a 32 point lead?

When I first replied, I had no idea there would have been 1:30 still left on the clock. Smart move by Payton to not grab a touchdown and risk blowing the lead, because two TD's in 1:30 is pretty easy to do, well maybe not so with the Jags, but it can be done.

The difference between the Comeback game and all the other blowouts Brady did, was the Oilers only score 10 points in the second half of that game, and no TDs in the 4th.

And it was only a 28-3 halftime lead. It's not like this comeback happened in the 4th only, and Buffalo scored it's points in the 3rd to tie it up basically.

There is a difference in pushing the game to pad stats and pushing it because the team is on the way to come back in the game. And most, if not all the games Brady has played in that resulted in a blowout, the team had no chance at all the even comeback.

Smart play. That being said, I have never understood people calling unsportsmanship on a guy who scores. It's a game that you play to win. Scoring points is the whole point. Making your opponents and their fans feel less shitty isn't his responsibility. If they were destroying them by like three or four touchdowns I could see it as salt in the wounds but even then....well fuck, it's a game. Score dem points.
