That's the dumbest thing I've ever seen. I don't see how that's worthy of suspension.

everything has become to politically correct. You can't say this because it offends this group, you can't do that because it offends another group & my personal favorite, you can't write that because offensive.

When I was younger there were fireworks that my older brothers used non PC terms for. Dealing with polish and blacks. :o

Hey I like Tacos also. I'm sure JPM loves them more than us.

Racial remarks are a tricky thing. It's a balancing act that one no has pinned down yet. Had he said Jeff Gordon was eating a hamburger I don't think anyone would have cared. This just looks like it's a case where they are being proactive to avoid any negative press. Still seems stupid.

Eating a taco? No big thing. Hell, if there were a German driver, I'll bet there'd be schnitzel jokes for days.

Now, if he had said "running a taco cart somewhere in LA", you bet your ass the media would descend upon him like wrathful demons.

Or if they said something like, where is he. He is only sneaking up on them like when they crossed the border.

That would be bad also.

Playing the devil's advocate: What if he commented on how a black guy must have been out eating watermelon? Is that a slur? If so, why would that be a slur when taco is probably not for a Latino and a burger definitely is not for a white American? What defines a slur, and when?

Just something to chew on...I like to tackle subjects from multiple angles.

Well, ETC, it all comes down to inferiority complexes, some justifiably derived from past events and abuses and some not so justifiably derived from false senses of entitlement.

Oh shit, I think I just sounded like a bigot. Must be the political incorrectness in me *shrug*

(For the record, no I am not a bigot)

Black people don't drive cars, they steal them, so therefore they could be good racers then.

I'm sorry.

But somehow saying he was out eating a Taco was defined as a racial slur, but if he was Hispanic, black, Asian, or anything other than white, he can say anything he'd want about a white person and get away with it.

Not such an easy topic when you peel away the layers a little.

I think watermelon eating is a well established slur against black people by our society's standards, so I would support it if he were punished for that kind of comment...even though I'd probably be rolling over on the floor laughing my ass off at the Youtube clip.

Taco eating, by contrast, is not perceived as a slur for Latinos by our society so there really is no reason why he should have been suspended for making such an obviously innocuous reference.

This is my take.

"Montoya is declining to comment on Griese's suspension. He brushed off the remark Sunday, and said he'd never heard of Griese."

Ouch!

This isn't political correctness. It is capitalism. ESPN (i.e. Disney) is in the business of making money, which means they are going to bend over backwards to avoid losing viewers/customers. A one day suspension is an easy way to make this go away and reassure their Hispanic audience that they are valued.

What if he really was eating a Taco?

God damnit, that wasn't even funny or remotely racist.

I think Griese deserves the electric chair.

I think his last name is racist towards hispanics and he shouldn't be allowed to work again until he changes it and disowns his parents.

I don't understand why certain racial stereotypes are considered offensive. If someone says black people like watermelon, that's offensive. Really? Why? Is watermelon some sort of racist food? What if someone said black people like apples? Is that offensive?

Yeah, okay, saying black people are all in prison or italians are greasy I could see as being offensive. But seriously, watermelon? Fucking ridiculous.
