MAGIC NUMBER TO CLINCH THE NE: 0 POINTS

Will keep this updated as we go.

3/21/10
Ottawa/Montreal Max points : 99. Buffalo currently has a lead in the wins column over both, plus a game in hand.
(Thank Mel!! My adds are gooder!!)

3/23/10
Ottawa Max points : 99
Montreal Max points : 97

We could technically say that the number is 11 because Buffalo should have the wins tiebreaker no matter what, but we'll leave it at 12 to be conservative.

3/24/10
Ottawa Max : 99
Montreal Max : 96

We're down to 10 folks... that means 0-0-10 down the stretch does it. Good position to be in.

3/26/10
Ottawa Max : 99
Montreal Max : 96

We're at 10 Points still... (SATW)

03/27/10
Ottawa Max : 99
Montreal Max: 94

We're at 8 Points Now... (SATW)

03/29/10
Down to 6....

04/1/10
Buffalo has a flat 3rd in Toronto, and can't pick up any points there.
The Sens tie their game up under 10 seconds, and squeak the 2nd point out in the SO.

We stay at 4.

04/03/10
Marty Biron does his old mates a solid and beats the Sens this afternoon, dropping the number down to 2.
Unfortunately, the Sabres can't take advantage in the nightcap and get blanked by the Habs.

THAT IS ALL.

MAGIC NUMBER TO CLINCH THE PLAYOFFS: WE ARE IN!!! (SATW)

God I still can't believe that the regular season is almost over. Maybe it was because of the Olympic break, but this season just flew by.

not to be a boob or anything, but aren't ottawa and montreals max points 99 and not 101? they both have ten games to go, and are currently at 79 points, which at two points a game would be 99? I might be missing something though, it's late and I'm known to have my idiot moments.

You're right, Mel. Tom made a booboo.

This makes the magic number to clinch the division 12.

Logic:
Sabres have 88 points as of tonight, Sens/Habs have 79
Sens/Habs maximum points possible are 99
Sabres need one more than 99 to win the division
Hence, Sabres need 12 more points to win the division

Let's take a brief moment to thank Ottawa for shitting themselves the last 8-10 games. Otherwise we wouldn't be in the mood for this thread.

I looked at it last night and just did to clinch playoff spot.

Which it is still 95 points I do believe also.

Montreal losing last night is actually GOOD for us. It keeps them down in 6th/7th range which is where our first round opponent is. Truth be told, we should WANT Montreal and Philly down in 6th/7th.

Ah, I was only hoping for them to completely rip their souls from them. Just to completely get them down and scared to roll into Buffalo. But then again, maybe this gives them a sense of false hope. Our bys have some swagger atm. Although it's been created by beating some bottom feeders, it's a swagger none the less.

I'm so looking forward to this Friday night, I keep forgetting about tomorrow.

Ottawa versus Philadelphia tonight...what a conundrum, I hate both teams. Can't they just both lose or something? Like their game gets cancelled because of some crazy blonde chick who decides to go streaking on the ice but she's really shifty so no one can catch her for 3 hours and they just have to cancel the game? Yeah?

Caroline, it sounds like you're willing to take one for the standings ;)
