Our biggest problem is that nobody will stand up to the Bruins and play with more grit than they do.
Our skill players are nonexistent because they are playing scared against Lucic and Chara. This comes back to the lack of heart this team has when their missing Vanek (where are the haters now?) and Hecht (damn soft euros)
Those are the guys that work and win along the boards on those top 2 lines. Not Roy, not Stafford, not even Pommers (although he should); for all the love we give Ennis here, he's not very good along the boards. Boston has slowed us down so much, we've got to be willing to work along the boards with our bodies and not our sticks.
Vanek and Hecht do a great job of using their bodies to work the boards, and create space where there is none. The afore mentioned "skill" players do not. When you take the "Skill" out of "Skill Player" you're not left with a grinder, you're left with a player...and guys that are simply hockey players, are the guys who play Thursday nights at the Pepsi Center.
Our "skilled" forwards need to get their asses in gear and be willing to grind out a game along the boards, and take a hit to make a play. Thats what Torres did last night on the Grier goal. Took a hit along the boards, but got his pass through, and we scored.
Goot points, Jay. Also, on that play, notice how quickly the Sabres push the puck forward.
It created an odd man rush; perhaps the only one we had all game.
It all comes down to speed. Use it, and we'll win. Play up tight, and we'll lose.
