So, let's see...Bettman is 58 years old. The average life expectancy for a healthy American male is 75.6. Since there have never been signs of him being tossed, we could possible be inflicted with another 17+ years of this mans asshattery.

and an outdoor game in DC?
eff it Gary...put one in Dallas...it's a big market doncha know.

Hey, when it's 50 degrees and pouring rain maybe Bettman will realize that it was a mistake to have a winter classic in DC

I was being 1/2 serious.
They make outdoor ice in Santa Monica around Christmas time every year. It never goes below 50 and they maintain it.

Either do it in the snow, or go balls out I say.

Washington DC can hold snow Alex. I don't understand your logic. Just because they are south or the Mason-Dixon line they can get snow, and I think St. Louis gets cold enough for it to snow there, it normally doesn't.

st louis, nashville... they get snow. they dont get it like we do, they get it in bunches. they get wicked storms that dump alot of snow at once. they get alot of alberta clippers.

the daily mean in january in st louis is below freezing, with high temps averaging 38.

and i know they love the blues in STL.

I was just saying, heck the midwest gets below freezing in the Winter also. Kansas freezes and I think in parts of Oklahoma it freezes.

No where in America does it snow like it does in the Northeast though, besides the Rocky Mountains.

Colorado would be a hell of a host site for the Winter Classic.

I don't have a problem with the Caps having a WC, but I do have a problem with them hosting one after participating in another so soon beforehand (a la Pens).

Colorado ought to be hosting St. Louis at Mile High Stadium...that would be a perfect game (as Rud beat me to posting). Or vice-versa - St. Louis hosting Colorado - would be good, too.

I'm mobile, so I haven't read about the new Heritage Classic, but I assume it's on Hockey Day?

I don't feel that a region that doesn't experience an actual winter should host a winter classic.

How weird would that look anyways with an ice rink in the middle of TN, and its like 70 degrees out? (Is that even possible?)

Course y'all are so sensitive to the cold, you'd have winter coats on so the atmosphere would be about right. (Every time my relatives come up. It's cold. It's 65 grandma, grow some testicles).

Yea, it's possible, Alex. Outdoor rinks in San Jose and Niagara Falls can operate flawlessly in up to 100 degree weather.

if colorado got the winter classic, id assume it would be at coors, considering coors is considered one of the most beautiful ballparks in MLB. plus its downtown. id kill to see the new busch stadium have a winter classic.

ive already heard theres a good chance next years will be in detroit in 2012. but thats a ways off, and nothing even close to a real source.

Well if they do you all can come out and stay with me. I would love to have it here, it's cold as shit in Denver on jan 1st. No guarantee of snow since it kind of masses along the mountains and then dumps randomly on us but it's always cold enough. Maybe a Winter Classic would wake these fans up.

Maybe we'll be invited back in a few years when Myers becomes an elite star player and Miller takes our team deep into the playoffs for the next few seasons, and maybe even we win a cup. That would definitely increase the popularity of our team and would make NHL fans want to see us in play in the Classic again.

As cool as it would be to see us play Vancouver in it. To see Miller and Luongo, 2 of the best goalies in the world, go at it outside would be an incredible showdown, but I doubt it will happen because we're interconference teams.

I think the best option would be to play the Leafs in Toronto because of the close proximity of the 2 cities so that it would be just a big melting pot of 2 team's fans that hate each other as much as the players do down on the ice. Plus, it would be fun to see us spank them on such a huge scale.

I don't have a problem with a 2nd game outside either. Hockey Day in Canada has always been big, and as long as they don't mess with the New Years game by trying to pull off a doubleheader, I'm cool with it.

Well that's just it, if the city of Buffola and the Sabres get all up in arms about this to the NHL, they would increase the likeliness of ANOTHER Classic for the Sabres. How about the Sabres visit Montreal in 2012?

Buffalo Sabres should just saw fuck off and do one every year at Ralph Wilson, who needs the NHL approval?

I know it's incredible sarcasm of you to think TN is 70 in January, but it's not hard to maintain an ice rink in hot weather outsides, if you have the proper equipment it's fine. You could never have direct 70-100 degree sunlight on it though and it would need to be put in the shade so the ice doesn't become a slush on the surface.

That's why a Dallas one could work, you'd have to have it inside Dallas Stadium though or it would probably be stupid and dangerous to the players.

But you could have one in Raleigh, put it in the NC State Football field next to the RBC center if they ever decided to give it to someplace warmer.

How about one in Miami :P And possibly Tampa? haha Just kidding, Florida shouldn't ever get one, the furthest South they should or probably could go for outdoors is the NC/TN area.

If you're going to put it inside or in the shade, what's the point?

I thought the whole point of the classic was to go back to how the game was originally played, on frozen ponds in the snowy winter. That just doesn't work down south. Period. Paragraph.

If the NHL wants to do a Winter Bettman's Retarded Southern Expansion, then so be it.
