What do you think the plan is on defense. I think Darcy didn't even really intend on signing Lydman or Tallinder unless it was under 2M.
Think about it...we replaced the offensive defensman (Tallinder), and let Lydman walk so that Weber coulld come up. I do not expect another defensman signing and I am ok with that.

Also, we can see if Weber and Sekera still have chemistry. Maybe we can get a little life out of Sekera and if he plays all year, he could get 5-8 goals.

Now, I'm not done with you Darcy...I fully expect to sign a top 6 winger and trade out some garbage...hopefully Stafford.

The defense isn't bad as it is, but I think they should keep looking for an upgrade on the blue-line. One more veteran defense man.

And even though Darcy Tucker is a douche who is past his prime, sign him for one year.

If we sign a veteran dman...(like McKee?) then I would want to trade Butler or Sekera or both because I'm tired of this clutter for the last spot. We're missing a window for some of these players (Butler, Sekera, Weber) where they're development is most crucial. I know Sekera said he didn't mind the rotation last year, but I didn't like having them in the press box one bit.

while having tucker around to protect miller would be awesome, i'd rather see us focus on getting a top center.. not gonna happen though.

Lombardi is still available...But I really want some size...I would take Lombardi though in a heartbeat. 2 years 5 million? or would it have to be 6-7m?

The d-corps won't be better unless another d-man is brought in. If Kubina gets signed I'd be sort of ok with that group. If Regier can trade with Minnesota to get Brent Burns that would be pretty solid. Minny wants to trade Nick Schultz, but most GMs don't like him enough for his cap hit. Burns is much better trade bait for the top six forward they are looking for. Stafford + picks/prospects might be enough.

I think it's a battle between Sekera, Butler, Weber and Grag's for 3 spots. I think Darcy never really had any intention of re-signing Hank and Tony unless it was for way less money. Hey I don't blame a player for leaving to seek more money for him and his family as long as he's comfortable with what he's making.
Me personally I think they didn't upgrade the defense at all and people forgot that Leopold has had a few concussions now and one most recently in the playoffs after getting blasted by Andy Sutton.

Not to be negative but I highly doubt Curly, Larry and Moe have a plan for this club. They signed a guy that has had I think 3 concussions to 3 million a season. Are you kidding me. I could see like 2 million a season at least give the guy alittle raise from the 1.75 million that he made last year but the guy was fucking hammered by Andy Sutton to end his season.

I would love for the Sabres to make a deal for Burns.

At first they were already mad that we signed him without the terms and were hoping for 1.75-2.0 per-season....then they were REALLY PISSED when they seen the 3 mil a year. I personally like the signing, and I really hope Leopold doesn't read HFboards...

I also think Leopold shouldn't have gotten a nice pay raise but what do you expect from Dumb and Dumber. I would be worried about the concussions he's had already and the most recent one in the playoffs when he was annihilated by Andy Sutton.

i think you may have somehow completely missed the point.

Leopold isn't worth 3 mil, but Tallinder, Lydman, and most other UFAs aren't worth what they're getting either. I'll bet Darcy didn't want to take a chance once a d-man showed mutual interest. Given the risk of bringing up 2-3 rookies on defense, he probably didn't want to take a chance at losing him.

GoSabres...good call on Jay McKee! We can get him cheap too I bet.

The thing is, if the GMs are paying them that kind of money, then they truly ARE worth it. The market value of a players worth is created by what comparable players are paid. Rob Scuderi got 3.5 last season, so you know guys like Michalek, Leopold, Lydman, etc.. are all going to get more money. Lydman's deal is a real bargain, I thought 3m/year was the absolute minimum he would have got, he probably could have got 3.5 somewhere but maybe he just really wants to live someplace warm! lol

So Leopold is not overpaid, when you look around the league that's what guys with his skill set make.
