It's definitely an awkward situation...you can't really tell them how to parent their kids but at the same time it's obnoxious and annoying for you to have to deal with them acting up. Maybe you should suggest having get togethers without any kids present?

I thought about this on the golf course, and I say you set aside a small room fill it with Ambien, and ten high wiskey and let nature take its course.

So i talked her last night (the mother) and....ugh...fuck me. She gave me a list of excuses from being tired to not wanting to seem like a bad mom by yelling at her kids. I basically said that when her kids are here i have rules. I laid them out for her and said that if she could at least start off the discipline, I'd have her back. She's fine with me being the bad guy and getting the kids in line so at least I have that now. Today is her last day of work (she quit to be a full time mom) so she'll have more energy etc. I laid it out and told her that when I have friends over it's to relax, not baby sit. I think I won...but I have never understood a woman so maybe I lost.

You lost. You're doing the parenting now.

(I don't know that's how I view it lol)

B&Y is right - unless she steps it up as a full-time mom, you'll be doing the parenting when they're over.

I dont see how that's 'losing' though, at least now he gets to keep the kids in line and doesnt have to sit there listening to screaming and whatever else.

It's losing because he should only have to set the ground rules, not enforce them. That's the newly-energized stay-at-home mom's job, but if she continues to pile on excuses on why they run rampant, then it's either on Pat to enforce the rules or tell them to GTFO.

Well I'm gonna go with my brand of discipline so they may leave on their own.

I give them two chances and then I turn on the "dad" voice. With my girl it only takes one "WHAT DID I JUST SAY?!" before she's back in line. I'm not about to go spankin' someone's kid that isn't blood related or the child of a close long term friend but I have no problem throwing their little asses into this homemade "naughty" chair I have and letting them stew. The back is cocked forward just enough to be extremely uncomfortable. :D

crosscheck has said it before and i've heard it from my (not much older) aunts and uncles. parents don't want advice from other parents unless it's solicited.

I'm not talking about a lecture on how she should raise these girls. I'm just tired of her letting them tear my house up. I'm not ignoring any of that. During one visit over here they drew on a drawing of mine that had about ten hours of work into it. It was away on my desk and after being told not to go near my stuff they did anyway and what did their mommy do? Nothing. Also when those girls have no guidance it makes my kids act like idiots too. Hard to explain to them why they are getting in trouble and her girls aren't.

from one artist to another, i applaud you for not killing the child like i would have done.
