If I ever get married, my wedding is going to be the cheapest, most laid back "have fun" thing in the world. People my age are planning weddings all around me (which I think is ridiculous in itself, but...), and all it seems to do is piss them off and strain their relationships. My bridesmaids and everybody else can wear whatever they want. I'll make my own cake and cook food ahead of time with the fiance. I hate the complicated etiquette and dancing around that most wedding planning requires. It's supposed to be fun, but its only purpose is to cause stress.
Actually I would just elope, but I want to dance for hours with friends. Additionally, those extremely laid back, simple weddings are always the best according to everyone I know who's attended one like that (I have not, yet), and providing a great, relaxed time for others like that would be nice.
I want it the same way, haha. A cousin of mine got married a few weeks ago, was the nicest wedding I've ever been to. It was in a park, everyone dressed casual (shorts or whatever), no fancy ceremony, etc. Was a very enjoyable time. Played horseshoes, frisbee, etc, afterward, then started the music after it got dark.
It really seems like the way to go...granted I'm a pretty cheap person...but it's cheaper, less stressful, and more enjoyable.
Only thing I'd disagree with is cooking the food...I hate cooking for myself, let alone a hundred or so people.
But, being the guy, I probably won't be the one who decides.
