The "lead by example" captain disagrees with you.

Not sure I get your point.

The captain should set an example with hard work and tenacity. This does not mean that the player is required to be the most talented player, or the highest scorer. You'd like them to be able to put up some points, but doesn't mean they need to be the team leader.

I've made this point a few teams.

More and more teams have been shying away from the "locker-room, hard-working guy" like Chris Clark was with the Caps, Rivet, etc. to the "lead by on ice example" guy, like Crosby, Toews, Sedin, etc. Both Crosby and Toews have Cups, neither Clark nor Rivet have cups.

I'd rather have a guy that's a point-producer on the ice who can lead by example. I don't agree that Roy should be the captain, and it doesn't have to be the highest-point producer, but it should be a guy who has a good amount of points on the team, and not a guy who has great locker room presence. I can't stand those captains because they NEVER work.

I don't get the sense that the locker room is finding Braveheart inspiration between periods. So I guess he's no William Wallace.

I get your point Squanto but we're not talking about being the team leader, we're talking about not looking terrible out there. I'm not saying a captain needs to be the best on the team but it is hard to follow and respect a guy who constantly looks like one of our worst players, especially the younger guys.

I don't know who would be the best combo of work ethic/prodution/leadership from the crop we have to draw from but it sure ain't Rivet. Takes more than experience to wear the C.

Am I the only one who thinks bringing back the rotating C would be a good idea? Work hard this month to earn the captaincy for next month...

I like it, but unfortunately we won't do it until the players lose confidence in their captain... or the Coach does.

How confidence hasn't been lost in him is beyond me.

The confidence in Rivet was equivalent to the Bills' confidence in Trent Edwards for three seasons.

Is Rivet a healthy scratch tonight?

Haven't heard anything about the shoulder, yet he's not on the bench.

Why the fuck do the coaches have to pull this shit. Someone is gonna leak the truth, and you're going to have to answer the questions anyways. "Kovie missed a meeting", just fucking say it. "Craig's been lousy". It won't be a shock to any of us.

It doesn't really matter. The fact that Lindy FINALLY pulled Rivet after many times of people (me) asking for it, he finally showed he has a pulse and benched the worst player on the entire team.

Give the C to Grier, or even Niedermayer.

Hell just give it to Myers, go with the youth movement.

Has his play been shit as of late? Sure.
Was he dressed tonight? Nope.
Why shit all over a guy who wasn't even on the game time roster?

I get that he's old, I get that he hasn't been able to live up to the words he spoke when he first came here, but how the fuck can we put the blame of this entire team on one guy that didn't even dress? The whole team has shit the fucking bed as of late!

FUCK!

Just because he didn't play tonight doesn't he hasn't hindered us at any other point. Sure he didn't hinder us tonight, but he's been a hinderence since the beginning of this season and all of last season. The fact that it took over a season to finally bench is disconcerting, but again, the fact that it finally happened makes me see that Lindy knew all along that he'd eventually have to do it as a last resort.

Rivet is not, and has not, been the worst player on this team.

the rotating C is a terrible idea and should never be used.

A player shouldnt have to wear the C in order to be a leader on the team. If a player only becomes vocal or determined when they have a letter sewn onto their jersey then they dont deserve to wear it.
