maybe not....

i noticed a few days ago, he kept opening his mouth. this isnt normal for him, but i didnt worry too much. over the next few days his stomach was getting fat, but he hasnt eaten.. i wasnt sure why but he seemed to be ok. earlier today i noticed white scars on his stomach, that i figured he had gotten scratched.. this has happened before. i just went and checked on him, and his stomach is swollen to the point where its read inside the white "scar" area... meaning his skin is about to break. clearly, he is sick, and probably gonna die. which is sad. :(

i think perhaps the snail he ate.. probably made him sick and is going to die.

i feel as though i should wrap him in a towel and put him in the freezer. obviously, death would be painless. but i dunno.

well, i registered at a salamander forum, so i could ask for some help last night. i was hoping to get an answer... i came down this morning and reynolds was upside down on the bottom. i put him in a cup (and he struggled slightly) so he was alive.. barely. i put the cup in the freezer. i assume ill bury him in an hour or so.

so sadly, reynolds is passing on. he wasnt going to survive. there was no hope for him.

i cant for the life of me figure out what happened. i think it might have been the snail shell. maybe it cut his stomach, got infected... i dunno.

its sad, but i mean.. theres not much i can do.

let me put it this way. his stomach, when hes fat (which is always, because he eats everything he can. hes even bitten me when i go to feed the fish), its usually 1 3/4 inches thick. last night, it was 3 inches, and this morning, 4 1/2 inches thick.

actually i figured it out. when hes eaten snails before, the shell was always deposited on the bottom of the tank. not in the last case. he ate the shell too, as i pointed out. i get the shell sat in his stomach, unable to pass it, and his stomach got infected. or just so bloated that it killed him.

We just got orders to Virginia....gotta be there by November 30. We owe more on the house than it's worth and we'll probably get a big old economy driven anal raping soon.

its partly my fault. i looked at pictures of tanks for axolotls (axolotl is a mexican tiger salamander that never leaves its aquatic stage) and i did alot of things wrong. so when i get another, which will be soon, i need to change the tank somewhat. and get larger snails. i went to a pet store today... they had snails that were the size of the palm of my hand. even reynolds would have left him alone!

im bummed.. i really liked reynolds. but he will be remembered.

and heres the shitty part. when i dig his grave, i accidentally dug up one of my leopard geckos. i didnt look at the bag, i just quickly covered it back up. but that sucked too.

and yes, hes probably ugly to many of you. haha. and yes, this picture was taken BEFORE his stomach got bloated. what a fat ass!

It is way too early for me to be awake right now, but here i sit in Cole Harbor , waiting for the chaos to begin. Think it has finally hit that we're going to see the biggest heavy metal band of all time today at rock the hill! Halifax will never be the same again! I think to start the day, I'll go take a dump on Crosby's parents door step.. That'll get the juices flowing on the day. :P

Holy crap I didn't realize he was so big. I was thinking he was the size of salamanders you'd find under rocks by a creek (~4 in.).

He's cute.

Someday I want an aquarium with plenty of aquatic plants and fish. That, a tarantula, some rats, a cat, and a dog or two. One of my friends got to build a miniature ecosystem and care for it for the entire year for one of his ecology classes. It counted for like half his grade. I was jealous of him. >_>

California in less than four weeks yaaaaay! Hopefully I can get a podiatrist appointment before then... 99% sure what's wrong with my foot and has been since before the school year ended, but it's something that will never leave, and I'm only 21 soooo I've decided to break down and see someone about getting an orthopedic device made. My parents offered to pay the copay, so there's that.

yep. he just chilled on his tail alot. sometimes he would gulp air from the surface, and slowly float down to the bottom of the tank. completely still, and he would hit stuff coming down (like plants) and it would flip him over, and he wouldnt right himself or anything, just land on his side or something and rest. and he wasnt sick, they just have goofy personalities. and yes, they do have personalities. youd be surprised.

and heres the kicker. i just found out he wasnt a tiger salamander larvae. he was an axolotl. which are different.

i miss the guy, but im going to get 1 or 2 more. and take care of them better this time (i did some things wrong that i didnt know about.)

seemed alot of people thought reynolds was pretty cool. thats pretty awesome to me.

Played hockey with a guy that was on the Sabres training camp roster a couple years back. Great guy. Really had a lot of fun. Thankfully he wasn't playing goalie, his normal position, because nobody would have scored.
