Halfway down the page Gleason suggests re-signing Myers now for 5 years and 30 mil before he can demand more during the season. I don't see Myers being able to demand more than 6 mil per season. I'd rather wait and make sure he doesn't have another rough start (which I doubt), but hopefully sign him for around 5 mil per depending on how he plays, at a length that keeps him an RFA at the end of the contract. 6 mil is a bit much for him right now, both for his current skill level and his maturity.

Gleason is an idiot. Myers won't and should not make 6 million a year.

I would be willing to bet, Myers signs a small two or three year contract for 3 million or under 4 million and just works on his development.

Myers is nowhere near a 6 million dollar defender.

Myers has already said he won't sign an extension til after this season. Which is smart because if he has the season I expect him to have he will be a 6 million dollar defenseman(long term) when we have to sign him.

If he has that season, which I am hoping for too.

Do I see it, it's very possible.

I'd rather just offer him a contract he cannot refuse. Just offer him big money. In my eyes the guys gonna get a big contract from someone why not us. Also one spectors trade rumor sight said that Myers camp will prolly look at what Doughty gets from LA. If that's the case Myers will get one hell of a deal

What Bucky thinks Myers will get means nothing. That fat bastard seems to forget why things are called negotiations.

If he's putting up goal totals like Shea Weber, than I could put my arm around the possibility that Myers would command $6 million per. But no.

If Myers puts up 20 goals and 50 points playing with Regehr and clearly establishes himself as our #1 D Man I say a deal of 4 years and 16- 20 mill seems about right

Myers will prolly be around 12 goals 60 assists... if he is.. he'll get in the neighborhood of $6m per year i'm guessing for 10 years

If, if, if...6 mil is fine IF he gets X amount of pts. 6 mil right now for nothing more than very impressive potential is ridiculous. Mid way through the season and Myers is on pace for 60-70 pts, then maybe a 6 mil deal is right. We know how the pressure of a big but premature contract weighed on Vanek. I'm sure nobody wants that situation again. No reason to rush a deal for a pending RFA.

I think what Gleason is suggesting is sound in theory, but as a show of good will I would want to allow that player the freedom to put up as big a season as he can without pressuring him to sign a long term deal. The last thing you want to do is make a player feel like he's been swindled, and have him half heartedly earn his salary for 5 years. You want a mutually beneficial deal, and I'm certain that Myers would appreciate that honest approach and he would WANT to have a lower cap hit to further the organizations desire to win multiple Cups. He could be a center piece for that for years, and become a legendary player.

I just don't see Myers playing like that just yet.

I have no doubt in my mind Myers is going to be in the running for Norris Trophies throughout his career, but why sign a RFA to that kind of money he hasn't earned yet. Myers seems humble and doesn't seem like the kind of guy who will demand that much this soon. He's more worried about his playing and getting better it seems, money isn't something it looks like he is worried about.

I don't get pro athletes sometimes though, after living in broke or comfortably in their life, why would they need 6+ million a year for? Anyone can live very comfortably on the league minimum. If I were there, I wouldn't need more than a million a year. What's the point really, at that point you can buy what you want pretty much still and not have to worry about money.

Nobody NEEDS 6 Million a year and I guarantee nobody on this board would argue that you can live comfortably on the league minimum but that is nowhere near the point. You're comparing the monetary figures to the average persons income and that's where your getting lost. If you make $50,000 a year but you skills, qualifications and experience dictate that you deserve fair market compensation in the range of $100,000 would you not advocate for yourself as being deserving of a raise simply because you cam live comfortably on $50,000 a year? Now I'm not saying at this point in his career Myers can justifiably claim he's worth six mil a season but let's not muddle the discussion by comparing dollar amounts to those of average citizens because Myers is NOT an average citizen...

I was saying, if you really care for the team you play for, you don't demand what your agent, or people say you're worth.

Most of the guys who sign those 8+ cap hit contracts are only in it for the money, the guys who negotiate a contract to average 4 million a year who should be getting paid 5-6, are true team players.
