Well then, that's different.

But still, when you win a prize you are responsible for all taxes due on them anyways. And the IRS knows you have the prize.

Her prize consisted of the jersey, watching the game from the owner's suite, and the additional access afterward.

At most, she's be on the hook for taxes on $500, and the IRS certainly isn't going to chase her down for that.

Nope, but if it was something like season tickets, then they might.

I have no idea how much season tickets cost anyways.

If the tickets were complimentary and had zero face value, there's nothing to be taxed on.

But since they're her normal season tickets, I think she would have to report as income anything she got in addition to the price she paid for the tickets. No one claims that shit ever, though, I'm sure. And I'm not advocating that the IRS go after them, but it's technically income and should be reported.

Yes, someone winning a full set of season tickets would be getting something high enough in value that it would be reported to the IRS anyways.

Aside from the jersey, they had nothing to report here. The suite thing could easily be accounted for as $0, since tickets there aren't sold to the public. Same for the locker room and press conference access.

No, not necessarily. They give out tickets with zero face value sometimes and call it complimentary. Of course if they gave away tickets with face value, you'd have to pay tax on it.

Like I know when they give away tickets to suites, they're generally complimentary, but you don't get the perks that generally come along with a suite like free drinks and food. You have to pay for that yourself.

I don't know why you're trying to argue with a tax accountant like I don't know this.

Those tickets would still be different though.

The suites aren't individually ticketed, they are bought out and you get allotted so many people to use it. But a season ticket wouldn't be a special ticket like that.

In regards to the suite tickets, I'm not talking about suite tickets that are bought out by companies. I'm talking about ones given out by the Sabres organization. When you win season tickets, sometimes they are given at zero face value, and don't come with any perks of being a season ticket holder as if you paid for them. That's all I'm saying. Mike assumed they were comped tickets and that's what I was going off of. Get off my fucking nuts.

Jay was ever rarely the source of me being annoyed.

Someone else, on the other hand, is lucky I didn't shove her hair into the sink and turn on the garbage disposal.
