People are sheep. Once they are handed a government entitlement they'll cling to it as if it's a holy, sacred God-given right that can never be tampered with. Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Welfare, etc... once enacted, they are permanently chiseled into the American psyche like granite.
There is nothing that can be done anymore. Capitulate to reality and figure out how you can work around it and still keep a roof over your head.
I was handed a government entitlement when I needed it, and when I no longer did, I gave it up. When I get the hell outta Chautauqua County and strike out on my own, I'm going to need that entitlement again.
I'll go back to my herd now. Baaaaaaaaaa.
Be careful of the shephard...he's got his eye on you.

BTW, I never said to abolish all government assistance, I simply made the observation that once an entitlement is instituted it becomes sacred and any discussion of cutting it is political suicide. Now that another massive entitlement is being enacted, there is no point bitching and protesting the fact that it's there because it will never, ever go away.
You see, my ideology is one of evaluating the circumstances on the ground, assessing what can be done, and overcoming obstacles. If the government puts impediments in front of me I'm not going to stand there and yell at the obstacle like a fool, I'm going to try and figure out how to get where I need to be in spite of it.
All the while, I attempt to keep my sense of humor and make sure I'm surrounded by plenty of alcohol just in case I come up short.
