I don't like the +/- stat really. Because most of the better defensemen in the league are typically a very low Plus or a minus.

If you're going against the top lines all the time, and a defender, well most of the time you won't be positive really. I only like to compare team mates not throughout the league at least.

I like the +/- stat, but you have to see it for what it is. Your point about only using it to compare against teammates is an excellent one. If Lidstrom played for Carolina or Toronto this year, he'd probably be a minus, but he'd probably be among the best on his team. Similarly, even one-dimensional Danny Briere could probably be a positive in San Jose, for example, but he'd still be among the lowest on his team.
You also have a great point that always going against the top lines can drag your +/- down. When we had Drury his +/- was almost always below the team average due to his assignments, not from any defensive deficiency.

Yea on Toronto there is only four players with a plus.

And Carolina only has 3 guys who are a 0 or plus this year.

like any other stat, the +/- is useless when looked at by itself

If it's true that players start to hit their prime at age 26, then Myers is still 7 years away from that..

Im be extremely excited if he stayed as good as he is right now.. But he's only gonna get better.. We truely have something special in this kid..

Sorry, just being a "realist."

How does not winning a cup make you not impressed with a player??

Winning a cup is a team achievement, not a player achievement..

I'd just be happy with some occasional backchecking.

I think "petty" is the word you're looking for.

I wouldn't get worked up over which rag has players ranked where they should be or not. Half these writers don't do their research, or just put names out there based on their own preferences. Myers is only two points off the lead for rookie scoring, surrounded by forwards. Only Del Zotto is close as a d-man, but he's also a -16. I expect Myers' numbers to improve, but his defense should merit consideration as well. If he actually ends up leading rookies in points on top of his defense, he should be a lock for the Calder.

BTW, I wonder how much of his two back door pinches were a result of James Patrick coaching the PP, or just Myers improved confidence on the PP. It could of course be chalked up to Toronto's horrible PK unit, but we haven't seen d-men pinching back door on the PP much at all this season. Myers has done it before 5-on-5, but I'd like to see more of it on the PP.

I have to add he is second in rookie scoring, or that is what I read at least.

SECOND IN ROOKIE SCORING AS A DEFENSEMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well just looked, tied for third.

Tavares is first with 28 points, Bergfors is second with 27 points, Duchene is also second with 27 points, and Myers is Third with 26 points and van Riemsdyk is third with 26 points also.

He leads all rookies in assists with 20, and he is second in Plus/minus with 9.

I love it.

Technically, that makes him tied for 4th. There are 3 guys ahead of him. 1, 2, 2, 4.

Well the only reason van whatever is ahead of him is because they go by goals scored as the first tie breaker.

But with that hot start Del Zotto has he is still at 21 points.
