Yeah, I just started researching..and it seems milk is on top for that. Gram for gram (of protein), I wonder if it is cheaper to drink milk or buy the protein? I would assume the milk is cheaper, but there's all the cholesterol in milk that starts negating the benefit of the casein.

I thought for sure when I saw this thread it was going to be about an exorcism :shhh:

I have the opposite problem. I can't gain weight and will lose it if I don't maintain a certain calorie intake very day. I'm convinced metabolism has something to do with it especially given that I don't even have a thyroid.

My son was on a diet/fitness program that did him wonders. I don't know a lot about it, but it was called PX90.

P90X is a great program... you can download it from :naughty:

p90x is amazing. Im in my seconds cycle of 90 days right now!!!! Its brutally challenging even for people in excellent shape and probably would be a little above Kris fitness level at this point. Once she loses some weight and is at a higher fitness level picking up P90X would be good, but you HAVE TO, I repeat HAVE TO eat healthy and follow the program to a T.

EXACTLY my man. Thats why it typically comes in synthetic form, all the benefits, none of the cholesterol. They sell it at GNC right next to the whey, same jug and everything.

I have lost weight fast, and gained it back just as fast. For the most part, I don't believe diets - any diets - work as a way of maintaining good health.

What works for me (this is such a subject thing - every body is different) is not being on a diet, but having a diet. I used to have a terrible diet - lots of pasta, bread, and potatoes - I love me some carbs. Huge portions, too. Now, I eat smaller meals, more regularly. Sometimes I will eat an apple just before dinner to fill me up a bit, so I eat less. Five or six times a day I will have something to eat, which is more in keeping with how early humans ate. We grazed throughout the day.

I also eat more slowly. There is a delay between when we are full and when the message that we are full gets to the brain. I try to wait for the message now, whereas in the past I continued to shovel the food in before my head got word that my stomach couldn't hold any more. In keeping with that idea I listen to my body more. If I'm hungary, I eat. If not, I don't. I started to recognize that certain thing would trigger eating - like watching tv (you gotta have a snack while watching the tube, right?).

Also, I don't deny myself. If I want chocolate ice cream, I eat it - just less frequently and in smaller portions. For me I would always lose the denial game in the long run - famine followed by feast. The best way to avoid temptation is to give into it - in moderation.

By eating sensibly and going for a 2-3 mile walk every night (I also swim in the warmer months) I have dropped 50 lbs. and have kept it off for the past five months.

ETC Say: Smoke and drink plenty of coffee and booze. You'll be thin as a rail, and won't have to diet or exercise.

I fidget a lot. And I calculated one day that thanks to the bathroom and various printers/copiers being far away I walk anywhere from .25-.75 miles every day.

Other than that I try to get out to play hockey in the driveway when I can, or bike. I personally can't stand jogging or running unless it serves a purpose.

Here is a calorie estimator. You enter in your weight and the number of minutes you spend on a specific activity and it tells you the calories burned.

Scroll down to sex and then deduct 10% -20% off of the time, depending on how much you lie.

More frequent smaller meals, as opposed to fewer large meals.

Limit the deserts.

Bran cereal or veggies at night; roughage is a wonderful thing.

Excercise like walking is useful, gets the metabolism going.

Even a little less calory intake, and a slight increase in activity will lead to some weight loss.

The more disciplined you can be with the eating and exercise, the more weight you can expect to take of, and at a quicker rate.

Don't starve yourself, or your body will crave what your not giving it, and a diet can go to hell in a hurry.......

Oh, and as mentioned in the other fitness thread; drink a lot of water. I gave up pop during the day, about three months ago. I just make sure my water is very cold. I won't buy water, I just fill my bottle and refrigerate it. Didn't like the change initially, but I can't drink pop anymore in the day, it's just not appealing.

Now in the evenings occasionally with my Bacardi............ ;)

Very true! I had mentioned this earlier about avoiding pop and sticking strictly to water. Also, diet-friendly alcoholic beverages- gin and tonic is the best. Zero of pretty much EVERYthing.....except about 80-100 cals per drink depending on the bartender......MUCH better than slammin beers though. Plus, it gets the job done quicker, lol

Female. I need to lose a boatload of weight. Last trip to the doctor a couple weeks ago, i weighed in at one pound less than i did when I was in labor at the hospital with my son 9 years ago. And there ain't no baby in there today! I wish I lived near a YMCA. I love water aerobics, but we live in an extremely rural world and those things are at least a half hour away.

So, I'm down almost ten pounds since a couple weeks ago. The Doctor wants me down 15 by march 15th...but I'm upping that to 25. i want to lose as much weight as I can before the dreaded plateau hits. I hate plateaus.

Dodging Plateaus is very easy to be honest. You can't do the same things every day, every week, every month even. Change it up. It doesn't have to be a drastic change, but change it up.

Walking is good, but is one of the number one causes of plateaus, simply because what you do in the beginning, becomes easy, and your body adjusts too it.

My suggestion is this,

Walk for a week, then find another exercise, such as bike, or stairs (stairs are the best work out you can get, by far and away). Then cycle through them in 7-10 day intervals. After about 6 weeks, then alternate between an easy and a hard exercise, like Cardio one day, stretching, or yoga the next.

Allow your body to HEAL as well. Working out is simply hell on you at first, and remains that way. Drink tons of water, green tea, so on and so forth. They say you need 8 glasses of water per day, I actually drink about 3 gallons of water a day. Keeps the toxins out and boosts your metabolism exponentially.

My guess is, that over the past 9 years, especially having kids, you've pretty well introduced a lot of toxins into your body, most of which come from the foods we all eat. Anything that is overly processed, like fast food, pre-made meals (ie tv dinner), preserved foods, and so on, builds up toxins in our bodies.

My guess is, that is a lot of the extra weight that you carry, are toxins, that have built up over time. The best way to combat these is with 2 very simple and inexpensive supplements. The first is a probiotic.

http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2133239

This is the one I personally take. Very affordable, about 30 bucks for a 2 months supply.

The second supplement is digestive enzymes, this will help your body digest foods, getting the most out of what you put into your body, and push the bad stuff out.

http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2291275

This is again, the one I personally take.

I know I'm not exactly a cover model for GQ or anything, but I have dropped nearly 70 pounds off my frame since last May. And have been researching weight loss and different techniques over the past 6-9 months. These few tips are the most consistent and practical means of dropping pounds, increasing metabolic rate, and also helping your body not only look good, but FEEL good as well.

Another small tip is, keep in mind that weight is just a number. It's about feeling good, and not starving yourself, but rather making changes that will help you become healthy, and by that, you'll become thinner naturally.

Hope this helps a bit.

Jay

Yeah, going from nothing straight to a thermogenic seems a little much.

Personally, I'm not a fan of them to begin with. Anything that promises to keep your metabolism up while you're sitting on the couch playing Xbox doesn't fly with me.

Thermogenics are alright, as long as you push the energy out of your system. The irresponsible way of using them, is exactly how you described them. Sitting around, doing nothing, forcing your metabolic rate to increase.

I use a thermogenic named "Thermo Boost", says to take it 60 mins before any work out, then max your body out during the work out. Precisely how a thermogenic is supposed to be used. It's to give you an extra boost to push it 10-20 mins harder in the gym, and maximize caloric expenditure.

But yes, used incorrectly, Thermogenics can RUIN a person's health, and metabolic rate.

Schony: That is so funny...I feel like my BODY needs and exorcism!! To release the evil spirits that are making me fat and sluggish!

Thanks, everyone, for the really awesome advice. Probiotics...i've heard the word, but never really knew what it was about. At first Ithought you were going to suggest one of those cleanses that are so controversial. They scare me, too, but a lot of people swear by them. I will look into that.

And I love green tea. I use it in my iced tea maker. I drank a pot a day one winter and the seasonal depression i get to a minimal degree was all but gone that year. The anitoxidants are wonderful!!

Off to go walking with Leslie Sansone! Once I can go outside and not have my nostrils freeze shut when I breathe, I want to go walking/jogging down the lighthouse road every day. Outside exercise is also good for the soul! ;)

Ok people, I know it might be late and I've been drinkin....(Its all Pat Green's fault) but I resurrected this thread lookin for help as I had given it in this thread previously. If anyone was involved with this topic before, they know I work out very seriously, eat great and track both diet intake and my time at the gym. Also, I have more than a bit of knowledge about this subject, but I'm still lookin for some help........ I've plateaued like crazy these last two weeks and every suggestion so far from everyone I know has failed. Now, again, let me preface this by saying, I know much more than the average person about fitness/nutrition and even I am baffled by my inability to break through this plateau I'm stuck in. If anyone has a workout plan they'd be willing to share, please PM me. I've tried everything and I'm horribly stuck. Thanks.
