Aside from perhaps Metallica and Foo Fighters, The Who are one of the few bands out there that can handle playing for an arena crowd that size.

And for 65 years old, Daltry sounded awesome.

Although I'm really not a fan of the Who or Daltry, I have to say he is holding up to old age rather well. I like him more now that he's older...when he was younger he used to remind me of the swingin dick twenty-something guy that would hang out at the high school after school, trying to score on the jailbait. Like Wooderson from Dazed and Confused. Now he's more like trying to score at the golf course...

Clapton's first real band was the Yardbirds. He left them to join John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers.

Clapton has belonged to more bands than any other performer I can think of. His best, of course, was Cream, but there was also Blind Faith, Bonnie and Delanie and Friends, and Derek and the Dominos.

Clapton is still a great performer. His Cream reunion and his reunion with Steve Winwood (Blind Faith) produced terrific shows.

I was wondering if anyone would catch that. :) I realized it after I wrote it that I munged the two together, but I decided to leave it to see if anyone else would notice. :)

I have no problem with Clapton, I really enjoy almost all of his work. My point was that the organizers of the halftime show are following a trend of selecting older, 'safer', bands from the 60s and 70s, and Clapton would seem to be a logical choice.

I for one would like to see someone like the Foo Fighters, or at least someone more contemporary. No disrespect to the older bands, but at the Super Bowl, I'd prefer more current stuff.

Next year we could have Taylor Swift do an encore performance of her Grammies rendition of Fleetwood Mac's Rhiannon. Fast forward to the 1:28 mark of the video or the song.

WARNING: If you like the song and do not want to be permanently scarred from ever hearing it again, do not watch this clip. I still haven't recovered from the horror.

Honest to God...I love Taylor Swift to pieces. But she really needs to never, ever sing live. I like her because she writes mostly all her own songs and is a real musician amongst the other teeny boppers, but she canNOT sing. Play guitar, sure, write songs...if you're into the folksy things, she's great. Never, EVER sing live again, Taylor. She's the only girl that can make Stevie sound good!!

And for those who like Taylor Swift, I recommend muting the volume and playing the video.

DAYUM. :D

I thought the commercials were very forgettable this year, except Google had a great one.

I didn't watch most of them, but I did catch the Tim Tebow one and was absolutely mystified as to the controversy about it. All I could think was, "That was it?" I don't know what people were expecting, but geeeez what a waste of energy to get up in arms and all pissy about something that subtle. There are much, much more overt things in support of both positions all over the place on TV and in the culture at large.

Aaaanyway. Yeah. Just came in here to say I really don't get the outrage over... that.

Yea, that was hilarious.

Maybe I should retire, I don't know? 2020 MVP hahaha.

And the Doritos commercial with the little kid. "Keep your hands off my momma, and my Doritos."

And the Axe balls one was great, I missed it though.

Springsteen was absolutely spectacular last year.

The Who wasn't anything special though.

Indeed. I understand their desire to be 'safer', but I think they're taking it too far the other way.

Who's next, Clapton with the Yardbreakers?

I thought the stage was pretty sweet looking at least.

Maybe next year we can persuade Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam to perform? To my knowledge, he's given very few performances since his conversion.
Isn't he not allowed in the country or something like that?
I think Cat Stevens is awesome.

U2's performance in 2002 was the last good halftime show that I can recall. That was excellent.

I mean, there have been good performances since then, but they seem so random that I can't see them that way.
