I keep finding and occasionally befriending people on Facebook that I have neither spoken to nor seen since I was eleven, and about 80% of them are either married, have a kid or two, or both. Literally zero of my childhood friends went on to college. :? I can't find one of them, though, that I haven't seen since I was eight. Because of her family situation I've thought about her often over the years and would like to know if she turned out all right.

I wish Locks of Love were a legitimate charity.

If I ever decide to go for the standard shoulder-length hair that is angled up on the sides to the extent that I need clips to keep my hair out of my eyes, which is the haircut I always get when I get tired of having long hair because I know it looks good with my face shape thanks to getting it originally when I was ten (and then at twelve and fourteen and sixteen), I'll probably donate to one of the legitimate charities that actually does what Locks of Love claims to do. I don't see that happening for a very long time, though. Long hair es el mejor.

It's just obnoxious when people act like having long hair is selfish and cite the existence of Locks of Love as some kind of great thing. Ummm...

I decided not to go to bed, and will resume playing MW2 in less than an hour or so.

I love the person that directed these commercials.

She died last year.

This is what I do in my spare time... look up commercials on YouTube...

It's so annoying. It's like, oh, the fact that someone else doesn't have hair means that I can't, either? I get that comment every time I meet someone new. I sometimes want to go off on people because of it. Yeah, my hair would make a nice wig, but first of all, Locks of Love basically doesn't even make wigs. They sell almost all the hair they get to wig makers, who just make and sell wigs at full price. They only make a couple hundred wigs a year. I'm not wasting my hair getting it cut and giving it up for free when the chances are BY FAR that it's just going to be sold to a wig maker when I could do the same as they do and get a lot of money for it. IF I ever decide to have shorter hair again, I'll find a legitimate charity, such as the Pantene program that actually does make wigs for women with cancer. Until then, be quiet and let me enjoy it. Whether someone gets a wig now or five years from now doesn't matter.

boring. sometimes when you grow a conscience you gain an unwanted side effect of talking yourself out of things that are fun.

exactly. when i decide to cut my hair, then fine. but people say it like the only reason one should grow out their hair is to donate. thats my damn hair.

and just as well, yes, im the only guy in my group with long hair. ok, i get that you dont fully approve of it. enough with the trying to convince me to cut it. my hairs not even that long.

I don't think that's completely true, it's just that they get an excess of donations or some of the hair isn't usable, so they sell that to other manufacturers. But a lot of the hair that they do receive is still going to children with cancer who need wigs, or they use the money donations they get to pay the wig manufactures to create a wig speficially designed for each child.

The Better Business Bureau said this about them:
Quote:
In the fiscal year ended November 30, 2002, LoL provided 113 vacuum-fitted cranial prosthesis, repaired 22 pieces, and provided 39 synthetic hairpieces.

Meanwhile, Locks of Love has stated that they receive over 2000 donations a week. They're also an illegitimate charity according to the BBB. Most people, too, think that the tiny number of wigs they do make goes to kids with cancer, which is not true at all; they go to people with alopecia, who are otherwise healthy. The vast majority of children with alopecia don't even like wigs and opt for hats instead, or they wear synthetic wigs because wigs made of actual hair are a lot harder to maintain, and because they're perfectly healthy they're just as active as the average child and don't like real wigs. Synthetic wigs are also a lot cheaper for the parents.
