I am so fucking sick of all the bullshit that comes out of politicians mouths in this country. It's a fucking joke, you can't get a hold of these fuckers for anything, but they continue to make decisions for "the people"; the fucking people who vote their dumb cunt asses into office maybe. And by vote I may buy, and by buy I mean bribe. It's a fucking joke.

Look at this unemployment extension. 3.3 Million Americans lost their benefits over the past 3 months, how the fuck is that good for the economy? Nobody has any money to spend, but hey, we're sure saving for a few months. Thats just wonder-fucking-ful. How about you create some actual jobs, not census jobs, but real fucking long term jobs.

This my rant from someone in my situation. BA in Finance, 2 years Financial Advising experience, 3 years bar tending experience, strong customer service skills, strong communication and character skills, and flawless criminal record.

I can't get a fucking job, but the fucking cunts in Washinton pass tax credits so that ex-convicts and people who have lived on public assistance their whole lives can get jobs.

I run into, you dont have enough experience in the business world, and you are over qualified for entry level positions everywhere else. Where is my break? What does a guy in my situation do? Go fucking rob somebody so that people are inclined to hire me once I get out of jail, because they'll get a nice tax credit.

Fucking eh, does this make any sense to anyone else, because I'm fucking clueless as to what message we've sent to those blue collar, hard working Americans. Essentially break the law, or get on public assistance, because you will get hired, because it's a nice tax credit for that business...fuck ethics, lets just make it easy on the fucking leaches on the system.

Fucking eh, I hope we are free of this whole administration, and congress 4 years from now, because otherwise, I'm not sure I wont be one of those nut bags in a private militia group. Thats how fucking sick I am of all this fucking red tape, and nicey nice bullshit they do on capital hill.

Air Force lookin better and better, eh? Sometimes it takes a move to do what you need. I was unemployed in Wilmington, NC, but here in Stafford, VA, I have a job that pays well, and was just offered a job that pays 100k+.

I would leave for Boot tomorrow if I could man. I have 1 more year left to finish my second BA, and earliest I can leave after that for Boot is June 23-28th.

I'm definitely in though, just a matter of getting through the next 11 months.

I agree with almost everything except the part about unemployment benefits.
Congress has extended unemployment benefits for 2 years (that's a record)...at some point it stops being insurance and starts being welfare.

Even a beleaguered and brow-beaten worker like you should be able to find a job within 2 years no?

Get all democrats and republicans out of office. I hate partisan politics, but this stranglehold has gone on long enough.

Both parties are full of dip shits.

I've been looking for about 5 months with no success...I'll let you know.

Granted I understand your gripe with the unemployment; but it needs to be watched more carefully. I know people who use it as supplemental income to only working 8 months out of the year. (I have friends that do construction) They work 8 months, and then claim 4, every year. I also know for a fact they don't look for jobs while on unemployment, and nobody even asks them twice about it. They just claim, and then go back to work, no questions asked.

I know people who have been on it for 2 years, and I know for a fact, a FACT, that they haven't even looked for a job.

I guess what I'm asking for is that, real jobs are created, instead of just the illusion of income. There are hardly any incentives to hire anybody who is in my situation, and more and more college grads are finding that out. I know several friends who graduated with pretty elite degrees, (Biology, Chemistry, Computer Programming, Electrical Engineering) that can't even get a job working at Denny's because they are too over qualified, and are going to leave soon...in the mean time, they move back home with mom and dad, and become a drain on them.

I dunno, just seems like the whole system is totally fucked.

I'm especially looking forward to the day when I retire and find out that after performing a semi-dangerous job and dealing with full-time assholes for 30 years, that my state retirement system is insolvent. I will really enjoy eating PBJ for the rest of my days, after eating PBJ until age 40 while I saved and slaved away at paying off debt. Yes...the American Dream for sure!

Relieves me to know I'm not the only American that is angry, and feels like the incentives are given to those that cheated the system for all those years, rather than the blue collar guy who busts his ass, and works hard for everything he's earned.

The American Dream is slowly dying, and thats kinda depressing to say

I'm already mentally prepared for an economic collapse within a few decades. I feel bad for the younger crowd that pays through the nose for a college degree that won't get them anywhere but in debt. I went to Buffalo State and actually paid off my BS degree before I graduated, but many other kids take on more expensive student loans with the hope of deferred gratification. That's the right idea in a growing economy, but this economy is only going in one direction - clockwise down the toilet.

I'm 16, going into junior year in HS next year, not athletic enough to get scholarships, not hyper intelligent, have no disabilities, have no idea where to find a good college for history majors, and am seriously debating joining the Coast Guard because 1. It's what my father did for 25 ish years 2. I can't think of anything I'd rather do other then History related jobs and 3. It's a steady fucking job.

If I could do it over, I would've joined the Coast Guard. By now I could be on the drug interdiction teams that work in the Caribbean/Gulf area, taking down fast boats trafficking drugs. Getting paid for that and having a 20 year retirement doesn't seem fair, unless you never get a dime of your retirement money.

Then you've got guys like Phil, you, and myself who have probably sent out over a hundred applications/cover letters/resumes altogether (I've sent 20-30), and have only been unemployed for a few months.

This man speaks the truth. People have been sitting on their cans collecting 99 weeks of unemployment. That's insane. 6 months should be enough time to find a job, and people should also be responsible to save a nest egg for just such an occasion. People waste their money like crazy, and I'm not real keen on subsidizing their irresponsibility.

Except people like Jay who are qualified and trying hard to find a job but can't.

Except people like a friend of mine with a Stanford Law degree who is waitressing because she can't get a job in her field.

Except for those people that had manufacturing jobs, and lived within their means, yet still lost their job through no fault of their own and have burned through all their savings trying to keep a roof over their heads.

There are people that abuse unemployment, no argument there. But making a blanket assumption that people are just sitting on their ass watching Maury Povich instead of trying to work is downright ignorant.

We'll give billions of dollars to subsidize the banking establishments that help create all this bullshit, but when it comes to the little guy, we'll call him lazy because he's not trying hard enough to find a job that the banking system helped to kill.

so you think 2 years of unemployment insurance is reasonable?

I'm not calling anyone lazy, but if you can't find a job in that time frame...even one that's less than ideal...maybe you have no business in the job market.

i think if you're going to draw unemployment after 6 months, you should have to work 20-30 hours for the state after that to get your check. there's plenty of jobs that need done, like cleaning, maintenance of state parks and shoveling walks at old folks' homes.

garbage on highways, clerical work at offices, washing vehicles, etc.

I'm on the fence. If my memory is correct, unemployment extensions were granted past the current levels in past recessions, and they were effective. I've read things from economists both for and against extensions that make reasonable arguments, so I'm not sure on what stance to take.

If you want to debate the effectiveness of unemployment benefits and their positive and negative effects, I'm all for it.

However, I REALLY get pissed when I see people classify everyone who's receiving benefits as a worthless, lazy slob who is doing nothing to find work. As I said, I know there are some that do that, but there are plenty who DON'T do that. There are plenty of folks who HATE getting that money because they can't stand the idea of not working for it, but they get shit on with the actual abusers all the same.

Maybe the three guys out of every four in state DOT trucks that sit around all day watching the one guy work could help out with that too. :)

99 weeks is the record...

Has anyone asked the question where congress got the money to pay for all these extensions?
We didn't borrow it from China, it's even better...
Congress extended a payroll tax on businesses!
http://blogs.wsj.com/economics/2009/11/ ... -benefits/

Stunning lunacy.
