I agree with almost everything except the part about unemployment benefits.
Congress has extended unemployment benefits for 2 years (that's a record)...at some point it stops being insurance and starts being welfare.
Even a beleaguered and brow-beaten worker like you should be able to find a job within 2 years no?
I've been looking for about 5 months with no success...I'll let you know.
Granted I understand your gripe with the unemployment; but it needs to be watched more carefully. I know people who use it as supplemental income to only working 8 months out of the year. (I have friends that do construction) They work 8 months, and then claim 4, every year. I also know for a fact they don't look for jobs while on unemployment, and nobody even asks them twice about it. They just claim, and then go back to work, no questions asked.
I know people who have been on it for 2 years, and I know for a fact, a FACT, that they haven't even looked for a job.
I guess what I'm asking for is that, real jobs are created, instead of just the illusion of income. There are hardly any incentives to hire anybody who is in my situation, and more and more college grads are finding that out. I know several friends who graduated with pretty elite degrees, (Biology, Chemistry, Computer Programming, Electrical Engineering) that can't even get a job working at Denny's because they are too over qualified, and are going to leave soon...in the mean time, they move back home with mom and dad, and become a drain on them.
I dunno, just seems like the whole system is totally fucked.
