"Slowly becoming a dump"?
Your coworker is an out of touch idiot...Buffalo was a dump 30 years ago...tell him to get a new line and pull his thumb out of his butt.
the whole rustbelt is a dump. cities like buffalo, detroit, flint, gary, ect.. all dying cities. i dont think theyll be dying forever, but its going to be a while before things get better as a whole. at least detroit and flint is starting to see an upswing. hopefully buffalo will too.
Yeah, I don't have much of a problem when people call Buffalo a dump because... it kind of is... along with all the cities you mentioned, which all share the same values, really. The Rust Belt, all of Chicago to Buffalo and maybe then some, is a sorry place to some, and rightfully so I suppose, but I still love it. I'll never brag on how beautiful the city is unless I'm talking to someone from Gary or wherever that makes a comment on it, but I'll certainly bring up kindness at some point. Buffalo's certainly not the norm in the Northeast when it comes to that.
Had a nice long discussion about the flight from the Rust Belt to the Sun Belt in economics class the other day... Most of it centered around Gary because that's definitely the closest of the cities to here, but I was able to add some more with Buffalo (Gary's kind of... reeeeeaaaally bad, and it has been for decades, and Buffalo's definitely not on that level; nor is Toledo, for example, so Buffalo brought balance)... That was an interesting discussion, albeit kind of a rabbit trail.
