well, things got heated. fast. he was enjoying the win, and some people took exception to it. fair enough, but he wasnt asked to stop politely, he was taunted by a few people to see. thats how i saw it. i mean, if someone started insulting me, id certainly take exception.

hnfydfd should have seen this coming, and exited gracefully, but emotions on his end were flying high with canada winning gold, and he enjoyed it.

So after hearing about this I went and read every page of the GDT. That ban was not deserved at all. It came from a bitter, angry person who wasn't happy with the situation so they took it out on someone who was happy.

I'm sorry to disagree with a few here. I don't usually get involved, and even typing this is giving me hives, but I feel an injustice occured.
There is a time and place for posts. I am/was under the impression, that GDT was put up in order to cheer on our USA team and Our Sabres goalie, Miller. Whom, I might add, played a beautiful game. This is a Sabres site/forum. This is not a Canadian site/forum. I'm sure there was plenty of celebrating on numerous Canadian sites where one could have posted with no problems and had more fun. Instead, the poster chose to celebrate and taunt here. If that wasn't the case, then why continue to come back under several aliases and continue with the same banter?
Aud, our fellow Canadian respected the GDT during the whole game. Only coming in after the game to congratulate us for a well played game. No hard feelings were taken. No problems resulted.
Squanto, I will admit I was shocked by your post in that GDT, but respect you more for your post in here. Thank you and many kudos. That says a lot about the person you are.
I love reading when you all share different opinions. That is normal and many do it with incredibly witty humor.
I hope tomorrow brings in a fresh start. I hope our fellow and much loved puckhead, Schony continues to shine, and we all hug and forgive. JMHO.

And Icey, where in thread did it say that he couldn't celebrate Canada's victory? He may have gone a little over board, but look at the first 12 pages like Squanto said. I think us Americans went a little over board too.

There are other Canadian fans here, too. They're not as numerous, but they're here.

It's a Sabres message board, not a Team USA message board. As such, I had no problem with his behavior... This was not a Sens fan coming in during a Sabres game and trolling the GDT. It was a regular, contributing member that's been around since 2003? expressing his joy over his team's win in a game that had Sabres fans rooting for both teams, not saying anything negative about Team USA or the US in general. There were some inflammatory comments made by Canadian fans earlier in the GDT, but he was not the person behind them.

What I think happened was the animosity generated by those comments was not forgotten, and later in the game when he began to demonstrate his support for his team, many attributed that former spirit of rubbing-it-in-our-faces to his posts as well, when he had no intention of doing so. All the criticism was in the spirit of the moment, motivated by emotion, misplaced as it were. I think things were read into his posts that weren't really there, and that caused him to throw caution to the wind in praising his team (though he still never once said anything inflammatory beyond that and never said a word about Team USA or the US; that bears repeating), because, hey, if false accusations are going to made, you might as well show 'em they shouldn't have complained, eh? It happens all the time and isn't really anyone's fault; it's just human nature. And, as I stated before, I have said much worse about Team Canada with the knowledge that there are plenty of folks who were rooting for them on here; I should be banned as well, if he is, along with probably 65% of the boards. Look at our comments after we won the first game, with Canadians in our midst.

Personally, if we had won, I would have found a USA thread to celebrate with fellow comrades, regardless of wanting to get even. I guess that is where opinions differ. I wish it never happened in there the way it has. It makes me very sad.

I respect your opinion as well. It's definitely sad, and I can see your POV (to an extent... I understand it on a cognitive level, anyway). I just don't agree.

Personally, I never get all that invested in disagreements here because, well, I just don't ever do that in any part of my life; I think it's pointless and can easily become petty. I didn't have a vehement tone or anything, just trying to give further explanation.

Yeah, it really sucks it happened like it did. I really hope this whole thing blows over like everyone says it will. I just don't want there to be a great divide here. Probably won't and I'm just thinking pessimistically.

I can live with the Loss, just not the arse that scored the goal. I really don't want to hear about it over and over again tuesday night when we play pittsburgh. And lets face it NBC and Gary Bettman are going to make sure the golden boy gets shoved down our throats.
