i like when iceilypolite posts. good poster. but i disagree. why not here? as jael already pointed out, this is a sabres site, the sabres are an american team in an american city that lies on the US/CAN boarder. this is not something new, you know these facts. the sabres fan base is alot of canadiens.

so why not here? it was originally good natured fun, but it got ugly, and really, it shouldnt have. i just believe it was a complete overreaction to disciple HNFSADFGE whatever his name is. its too bad, but its past. itll pass and heal itself.

but as a community that is pretty tightly knit, ignoring what happened isnt smart, and we are allowed to have opinions on what happened.

Yeah, it really sucks it happened like it did. I really hope this whole thing blows over like everyone says it will. I just don't want there to be a great divide here. Probably won't and I'm just thinking pessimistically.

I still can't live with this loss, granted it's only been about 12 hours...but this one hurts bad, and cuts deep

In two weeks, I don't think anyone will care anymore. This is the olympics not the cup finals.

You oughta try 4 superbowl loses in a row. The first one cuts deep, the next one completely deflates you, the last 2 are just kickin a man while he's down. ;)

I have lived through every sports event in Buffalo and the USA since 70. I can tell you, it may hurt now jvaccar06, but I'll always have Lake Placid and 1980. As I told PSP, let the Canadians have their moment in the Sun, they earned it and on home soil, just like we did in 80'. 4 Years may seem like a long time, but the U.S. squad will be seasoned then, and it will be gunning for a Showdown with the Loon Lovers, you can bet the Russians are going to want some revenge as well.
Yep, 2014 Olympics is already shaping up to be a battle of EPIC proportions, and I don't think Sid the Kid can save Canada's Bacon the next time around. ;)

I just want to say I LOVE SCHONY. Was the ban the right thing to do? Probably not, but I completely understand her emotions. I was SO PISSED when Crosby, of all frikken people, scored that goal. Then to have hnfwhatever to start taunting... I know it went both ways, but I understand the emotions behind the ban. I just want us all...moderators and all...Schony, Rob and Squanto especially...to have a group hug, apologize for mean things said, understand where the emotions come from and remember that we are all friends here and are like one big happy/angry family.

Poor form on the part of several of you to jump all over one of our regular (and importantly selfless moderator) members yesterday.

You can look at the situation from several viewpoints. I will not argue some of these.

I will argue this at a couple different levels. Number one; if you have a difference of opinion with one the people who volunteer their time in here, you owe them the respect to air your grievances privately - at least initially.

Number two; there is a social feel to these boards. Just like in life, we support our friends, and this can be, and often is, at an emotional level - whether we fully agree with them or not. We usually take people aside if we disagree, and express this.

We don't call them out in front of everyone and throw them under the bus. :x

I am timing myself out for the next 24 hours because I am very disappointed with several of you; you show an apparent lack of understanding as to what friendship and loyalty truly mean in life; and yes, these boards are an extension of our lives to some extent.

I will leave it at that, because I could go on, but I won't. I could call out about six people by name here, but I won't.

I could just "forget" it happened; but I can't.

This is in jest, and please take it as such - Schony proved why we can't have a woman president ;)

I don't think the ban was deserved, reading through his posts and responses, he was accused of USA-bashing after the game was over, and he never - NOT ONCE - said anything negative about the US.

Eh, I think this case may be a little different, Howie.

I don't think anyone is really upset with the mods and is trying to make them look bad.

I think we all understand why they chose to ban him, and to be honest, in the heat of the moment, I think most people here would have done the same thing.

I just think that now, after having let things cooled, they should consider it.

No one is demanding anything.

As friends, I think they'd understand that.

Storm's blown over...time to get together and begin repairing the damage. Hurt feelings are sometimes difficult to fix, but a little extra effort and we'll be good as new.

The only thing I'm really upset about is that it was Crosby who scored. We played a damn fine tournament, and a very good game.

Completely agree ETC. Buffalo's proximity to Canada gives this team a unique position only a handful of teams really garner a larger part of their fan base from both sides of the border and Buffalo is one of them.
I love our Canadian Brother's and congradulate them on their victory. I guess being a bit older and going through the agony of Buffalo's sports history first hand, the bitter sweetness of defeat in this particular venue just isn't what it would have been for me 25 years ago.

On to the next phase in "OUR" fan base fanaticism, The trade deadline, Pittsburg and Washington as opponents this week and the Conquering of both Canadian and American Sabres fans most hated enemy, "THE OTTAWA FUCKING SENATORS"!

Let us all, every Sabres fan, turn our Sabres History Books to page "We Must Beat This Fucking Senators Team" and join together to recite the Grier Prayer and Praise Miller. ;)

And in the 4th year of our titanic battle against the Senators, Grier said unto the: "I have returned to lead the PK against our hated foe, let all Sabres Fans rejoice in this for it is time to take the fight to the enemy, conquer our foe's and move this mighty team into 1st place in the Division. Prepare yourselves Buffalo Fans, the playoffs cometh, and we, the warriors of your blessed city will move foward in truimph. As it was done in 06-07, thy Cup competition cometh, Miller's will be done, as it was in the tournament, so shall it be in the post season".

AMEN!

I wasn't going to address this much more, but since Howie decided to take a shot at those that disagreed with the ban decision, without saying names of course, I feel obligated to respond.

As mods, we're not perfect, especially not me. Ban decisions have been questioned before. They'll be questioned again. Sometimes people do a good job pointing out that one of us may have gone a little too far. Sometimes people don't know all of the circumstances surrounding a ban, and that's ok too.

Folks are entitled to their opinions, regardless of if those opinions mesh with everyone elses.

Yesterday, during the day, XC, myself, and others had good banter going back and forth with our Canadian members. Lots of friendly smack talk, pic spam, the usual. No animosity, all in good fun.

I wasn't home for the game, having gone to a friend's. Not long after I got home, I logged on, and as usual, clicked on the GDT. I was shocked to see the comments about Hnfjw being banned. As I normally do, I read back through the thread to see what transpired. After seeing what happened, I posted that I disagreed with the decision to ban. I didn't change anything, reverse the ban, nothing. I simply stated my opinion. It doesn't seem fair to me that we were allowed to fire away at our Canadian friends, and not be able to take a little good natured heat back our way.

In response, I got a 'STFU' and 'Go away' from Schony. My response to those comments was indeed poor. I've apologized about that in this thread, and via PM. No need to rehash that.

Regardless, my opinion on the matter has not changed. I do not think that Hnfjw did anything to deserve a ban of any sort, and I stand by that. Based on a straw poll of the PM's I've received since last night, plenty of others share my opinion. However, Schony took that action, and I will not step on her toes and overrule her. XC may chose to do so, but I will not. It's not my place.

Howie, I don't agree that people should keep their grievances private. We're all adults here. Criticism and disagreement is part of everyday life. We should all be able to handle it. Just look at the politics forum. We're generally able to fire away at each other in there without anger and hostility overflowing elsewhere on the boards.

The mods have all exchanged PMs about the issue. If there is anything more to come of it, we'll let you know.

I wonder if Crosby will be playing tomorrow night or if he'll have the night off. The last thing I want to see on my first post-olympics game is that jerk.

Squanto, I have to take Howie's side on this matter. Because mods are in positions of authority, they should always have each others' back publicly and appear united. Differences among mods regarding moderating decisions, like banning members, should always be held exclusively in private. She may not always agree with you, you may not agree with her, but the public threads are the wrong place to air those differences of opinion. It's a matter of respecting the authority of the position and the person.

Anyway, that's my opinion for what it's worth.
