I figure copying the CoC from the WSOD is a good start and editing out some of the things we can do here, like use profanity.

Criminally vulgar? No cursing? Something isnt working there? lol. And just for reference I love the fact we can say "fuck." I love it, love it, love it. Fuck, Fuckitty, fuck, fuck.....

I meant that since here we can swear that section from the old CoC doesn't apply and can be deleted.

I know I was just giggling at the irony, I thought it was funny.

Hah, i've encountered enough problems trying to interpret people in PERSON, i've pretty much given up counting on accurate interpretations online.

Anyways, cool, figured.

The thread-jacking thing is iffy.

On one hand there are a lot of threads started that are just awful.

On the other hand, you'll get certain members going into certain threads complaining because they don't like the op. Whining about how weak a GDT is for example.

Not sure if you guys decided on a solution, but I think we should make set of guidelines for threads that are hijackable.

As an example, there have been threads in the past with false information regarding FACTS, no opinions.

Acceptable:

Someone makes a thread calling Darcy Regier a moron because he traded MacArthur for a minor league player.

We know that Darcy ACTUALLY traded for two draft picks.

Thread gets the green light for a hijack.

Unacceptable:

Someone makes a thread calling Darcy Regier a moron because he traded Clark MacArthur for what he says are poor draft picks.

That may be a hijackable thread in the past because almost everyone would disagree and take over, but in reality it could be offensive to the person who really feels that way, therefore should be against the code of conduct.

Hijackable thread:

Original post contains false information, resulting from originator being confused, or using a bad source.

Can anyone else think of stipulations that have resulted in hijackings?

This is the current language

3. Stay on topic. Try to keep threads as on topic as possible. Repeated attempts to derail a thread after being asked to stop by thread participants or moderators may result in action taken.

So, going by that, everything is hijackable (is that a word?) unless the hijack is unwanted. I think that's a fair way to go about it...trying to define what is and is not fair game for a threadjack would be almost impossible.

A few of my threads have been hijacked. And it didn't both me, so couldn't it be up to the topic starter if the thread gets hijacked that action is taken? Just a thought.

I think there should be something in the CoC about what I would like to call a "Thread Intent Violation".

If the original intention of the thread is to talk about (lets say) physics, then I think if a user tries to intentionally go off-topic in hopes to derail the thread their post should be deleted, and the user warned. Three different thread intent violations (on different threads) and you get Tier 1... If it happens a second time in the same thread they get 1st Tier immediately and any successive one from then on just gets the next tier.

But this would kill a lot of my attempts at online humor. Besides, judging people's "intent" is a murky science at best.

This idea has actually changed quite a bit since I posted that.. XC's last post was probably what we'll do.

severity, the user may also be timed out for 24 hours.

Second offense: Offending post or thread may be edited or deleted and the user will be warned. Depending on
severity, the user may also be timed out for up to one week.

Third offense: Offending post or thread may be edited or deleted and the user will be banned. All banning

I think a clause should be added to the CoC that allows for linking to one's personal blog, but also restricts the link to one's signature. For example, my sig has the link to my blog, but I don't ever post the link elsewhere. Something like that.

What I hope people realise is that there is a "report post" option on each post. Since we can't be everywhere at all times, it makes it easier for us to go through reported posts to find offenses.

on the old sabres.com boards, there was a giant "report post" button and people almost never used it.

I use it often. Better to do that than contribute to an already crappy thread with your own dickery.

You know, ever since day 1 there has been this strange beeping every once in a while. I still can't pin down where and why...

I would think they probably get a PM or some other sort of notification linking to the post in question and signed by the reportee's username.

When you guys report something, the mods see it in two places. There's a list in the mod control panel area, and there's also an obnoxious red exclamation point next to any thread that has a reported post.

(And a shock collar goes off on my cat.)

I want to see the words 'dickery' and 'fuckery' in the CoC somewhere. That is all.
