ray emery was a rookie who was thrust into the starting roll when hasek got hurt. emery played admirably with a solid .902 save percentage the rest of the way. thats fine for a rookie who became a starter.

Pominville is just as fast as he's always been.

Vanek is just as slow as he's always been. He's never, ever had any explosiveness or foot speed.

pominville doesn't look bad to me. he's not as noticeable as he was 2 years ago around this time, but his game overall is fairly solid. not worth 5.3, but solid. vanek on the other hand looks slow as can be out there. he also looks exhausted all the time.

Well, I can understand why Vanek looks tired on the ice, living a double life and moonlighting and all. I mean shit, someone's gatta make the doughnuts..

Ok, I just have to ask it, what is the inside skinny on the Vanek and doughnuts thing?

Gotta disagree with that. Remember the brawl game against the Sens? The first Sabre goal that game (I believe) was Vanek splitting the two Ottawa defenders, streaking in, and roofing a backhand behind Emery. He looked FAST.

That's because he had momentum going. When he has room to get up to speed, he's fast.

But in tight quarters during stops and starts, he'll get owned every time.

Shit, he couldn't beat Chris Pronger in a foot race on Saturday night.

You probably don't remember the "Time to make the donuts" ad campaign for Dunkin Donuts, Sky. It's so old I can barely remember seeing them as a kid.

No I sure don't.

But like I said, the girl at the local DD here is hot, so heh, and she has to be my age. :D

Rinse, lather, repeat. Every game. Definitely.

Rob, I'd have to assume the kid was ABSOLUTLEY SCREAMED AT TO DO THIS. I'm pretty sure that when he'd try a pass previously, and it failed, he'd get reamed, real bad. "Shoot the fukin puck" is all I can hear his coach saying. I can see no other reason why the kid would shoot every single, fucking time. Just once in a while he'd have to want to peel off, and try and do something with the puck rather than waste a rush. It's "the system". Believe me. If ya don't believe me, ask Max.

Folks were picking on Vanek for looking slow and fat. The natural extension of that is to say someone eats too many donuts, and it took on a life of it's own.

The pictures of Vanek with love handles didn't hurt the joke, either

(To be fair he was wearing a cycling jersey, but still )

It was more along the lines of Ferret always calling out Spacek for being lazy and eating donuts, and it carried over to Vanek when we lost Spacek.

Yea, this all happened like 3 years ago now. Ferret always rambled on about Vanek sucking wind and same with Spacek. He was always saying both went to Tim Hortons before the game to get donuts and such.

I'll admit that it's amusing at times, mostly when I feel like posting silly Tim Hortons images. :p
