You are a defenseman. That means the main point of your job is to keep the other team from scoring, not score yourself. If you want to take a shot from the point, then by all means, have at it. But you are NOT a forward, so you should rarely be behind the opposition's net on the forecheck. The reason why is that it often leads to breakaways for the other team, and it's harder for the forward who's covering for you to defend a breakaway than it is for you.

Your fan,
Stuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

PS. If you're going to join the rush so often, then you damn well better be more effective than you have been to this point.

Hmm.... 1 goal and two assists. Tonight. Yeah Myers, what the fuck. Stop playing so good offensively then playing decent defense. You need to be a lidstrom!!! Even though your a fucking rookie! You need to be the best defensive defensmen. Not decent on defense and decent on offense.

A supremely-gifted offensive defenseman ought to have competent teammates playing the system to cover his butt should it happen. Blame the idiots who aren't backchecking.

Exactly. Plus, I don't see Myers making huge mistakes, I see him make a minor mistake every so often, and he's a rookie.

Look, I love the guy. Rebecca said just last night that I was obsessed. But honestly, the guy is joining the rush too much.

But that hasn't been a negative, only a positive this year. He has been one of our best players next to Miller.

I was more impressed with him earlier in the season, when he was keeping his game more simple. I would argue that his crashing the net has been a negative, because it's made him a less effective defenseman. Sure, maybe he's scoring more goals, but notice where his +/- is compared to earlier in the season?

To be honest, his +/- crumbled when he was sitting back and playing more tenatively. He said it himself that his play suffered when he got tired and sat back. Now he's rushing again, looking more and more confident, and it's showing in his playmaking.

IMO, his defensive play is getting back to where it was, and his offensive play is, too.

FYI I own like 10 Tyler Myers hockey cards I bought on ebay. I think I have a problem.

That's OK, dude...I bought a now out-of-production Kelowna Rockets third jersey from the 2008-2009 season with all intention of having it customized to be a Myers jersey! :D

I know it doesn't really seem like it anymore, but Myers is a rookie, and a rookie with a good head on his shoulders. I don't think he's the one who decided he should get down low so often. I think he's just following Lindy's orders like a good soldier. I totally see your point Stu, but I think he's playing with a pretty good balance of O and D right now. And let's face it, sometimes we really need the help creating offense.

Myers is the least of our worries. I think we need to figure out why Pominville sucks at shooting when he used to be such a sniper.

Also true.

I'm a perfectionist y'all. It's constructive criticism, and I think not a bad one. Why not aim for the stars with a guy so talented and accomplished at barely 20-years old?

That's a new career high for the youngin!

Also, he had some sexy defensive work to strip the puck all over the place tonight.

Myers=Awesome tonight. Keep joining the rush if these chances are going to keep coming up. Hell we all know our forwards can't get the job done.
