Well seriously, you want to pick on Myers?!

Critique, not pick on. He isn't a god.

Myers is on the Compuware 3 stars selection on the NHL.com site. I don't know how to copy that and paste it here. Anyone?

I agree the guy when he gets moving not many players in the league are going to slow him down and that his teammates better cover his point when he rushes the puck. It's not his fault he trying to show the offense how you make shit happen.

and honestly, who would want to stand in the way of Myers at full speed?

The reason why is that it often leads to breakaways for the other team, and it's harder for the forward who's covering for you to defend a breakaway than it is for you.

Sorry but "arriving late" has nothing to do with the fact that it was a ridiculous statement to begin with

But you guys aren't really getting what I'm saying. Obviously, I don't think he should score fewer goals. What I'm saying is that I think he should not join in the rush, or tote the mail himself as much as he has started doing in the last 30+ games. Again, I think it can and has lead to more odd-man rushes against.

I've watched every game of his NHL career, and I'm pretty sure that I remember a lot of the goals he's scored. He hasn't scored any that I remember on an odd-man rush. The closest thing I can think of are the two goals he scored against the Laughs in the same game, but those were both powerplay goals, so they don't count for what I'm talking about. I can't remember him producing many, if any goals from cycling on the forecheck.

He seems to score and produce more goals from the point than he does on the rush IMHO. He also is in a better defensive poisition there. Disagree if you like, but realize that I'm not saying "don't play offense", nothing wrong with an offensive defenseman. I just think he isn't playing to his strengths or doing the team any favors by being the 4th skater in half the times down the ice.

But what your not getting is that that Myers strengths are EXACTLY what you are trying to prove he shouldn't be doing?

If he stopped carrying the puck thru the zone, you'd notice it real quick, because he is the only defensemen (besides Suckera) who can. You should feel blessed to have a guy who fearlessly(and most importantly, EFFECTIVELY) goes end to end. You can staple Montador's skates to the crease if ya want.

Well one thing that's sure is that I picked exactly the wrong game to start this this thread. But I've been thinking this for a while. He doesn't always score 4 points a game. And he was joining the rush an awful lot during that losing streak that wasn't so long ago.

Ya, maybe you do have a point that he's pretty aggressive for a kid his age, but he's doing it pretty well. He will only get better, too. Someone probably made the same post about Bobby Orr his rookie season too.(Wouldn't it be funny if 2 people kept putting notes over each others on the cork board at work arguing about hockey in 1973) lol The first message board.

We need our defensemen to do just what he does.

How were we last year when none of our defensemen did such a thing.

Myers is the last of our problems and how he wants to carry the puck. I'm sorry but Ruff wants our defensemen to do just that, and that is what he is getting from more than one guy. Montador can do it, not as good but it goes to the zone, Rivet can do it and put a good shot on goal, Sekera also can easily do it.

So basically I like having three or four defenders who also can carry the puck into the zone.

Well I'd take a Jay McKee type in his prime over a Brian Campbell type any day of the week. But I will grant that Myers may well be better than either one of those two were before too long, so maybe it's not an either/or situation in this case.

Is it just me, or does myers make...pretty much all of our forwards look god damned impotent regarding moving the puck into the zone? Connolly gets in, but is too fancy and bullshitty, roy is probably the best at getting in the zone and effectively dishing the puck...but we have NO ONE, besides Myers, who can rush into the zone, past the defenders, and have a chance at a quick deke on the goalie. there are NO forwards on the sabres who can do this anywhere as good as Tyler, that seems kind of messed up.

It's not just you. Although it sounds like you think carrying it over the line is preferable to dumping it in. But even then I wouldn't say any of the forwards are particularly good at dumping (<--insert joke here).
