I know it's alittle early but does anyone know what picks we have in this upcoming draft. I know we don't know what number but which rounds. I know we have a first round and no second rounders. But what about the other 5 rounds?

i think we have two third rounders, and two 4ths.

Prospects i like outside the top three are Nino Niederreiter, Ryan Martindale, Ivan Telegin those are all forwards, all over six feet.

there are a plethora of mock drafts.

I'll be honest, I don't pay a lot of attention to hockey drafts until closer to draft time. Things change so much, and so frequently, I can't keep much track.

This draft is very weak in the 1st round, considering Taylor Hall is the top player, and he's really not even all that talented. I will make a longer post later on this topic.

Buffalo has like 10 potential picks in this draft, so it could be a good year to build up home grown talent on the farm.

Agreed. This is why I have to wonder if Buf makes a trade to move down in the draft and bring in a solid Winger, Right or Left.

All I know is......Boston is likely going to have a Top 3 pick thanks to Toronto.......Burke, u can pick Team USA, but you DEF can't pick Team Toronto....

Yeah Burke gave up a top three pick but he got Phil Kessell in return who is a pretty darn good player to build around now rather than waiting a few years before the pick develops and that's even if he pans out.

Well with toronto he was working with like no real stars. a good prospect in schenn, a veteran in kaberle, and stalberg has turned out nicely, but toronto really didn't have many prospects, a reason he should have kept the pick, but apparently he thought he was bringing in an offensive force that he could build the team around. his move for phaneuf and aullie wasn't terrible. He'll probably still try to bring in a first for kaberle.

With Team USA, he could basically almost have picked an all-star team. But miller won them a lot of games, and i doubt thomas could have performed as well. I still would not have minded seeing Anderson in over Thomas, but it's the past.

As to trading down, i think that will depend upon where we stand, come draft day. I mean if we are willing to trade to say toronto for kaberle, take their conditional second (they will probably be dying to get back in the first). Depends. If we are low and feel Niederreiter will fall to us, i'd take him. Though if we are low and think toronto will give up a lot more than just kaberle for our first. It is really going to depend on where we fall. Telegin may fall early second round, late first.

http://www.ontariohockeyleague.com/stat ... hp?id=5445 Telegin's stats C over 6'
http://www.ontariohockeyleague.com/stat ... hp?id=5187 Ryan O'Connor's stats OFD 5'9"
http://whl.ca/stats/player.php?id=25458 Niederreiter's stats LW over 6'

of course this is all very early talking. But i would think we still need a PP QB, even if Myers is that in the future, a decent prospect behind jhonas could not hurt either. A true # 1 center would be nice as well.

I know darcy doesn't like to give up prospects, but i'd try to trade mancari again and perrson. As well i'd look into trading stafford, roy, and pominville (mostly the salary).

If Burke wants a player I can almost be for certain he will make a pitch for that player or pick. That's the difference between him and Darcy. Plus you don't know if Burke is going to go after any unrestricted free agents.

Other than the first 3 picks of this draft of Hall, Seguin and Fowler it is not going to be a good draft at all. Anyways a guy from London named Jared Knight is not bad he's projected to go in the later rounds http://www.ontariohockeyleague.com/stat ... hp?id=5132

Well since the draft isn't that good and our pick won't be either think we should go after an upcoming enforcer.

You think Toronto will want our 1st and 2 of our 3rd rounders for Kessel? :D

Well no one in the new nhl needs an enforcer so that would be a bad decision. Especially since we chose what would be the closest thing to an enforcer last year with Kassian.

Just draft for depth and hopefuls is all they can do this year with the draft not being as deep.

Yeah use the first rounder as a project pick and then use the 3 3rd's we have to fill in positional needs.

This is the way I look at it. You have to draft players by skating ability, size and overall hockey smarts. Buffalo can't afford to waste picks on players who can't pan out and that's why this team hasn't won a cup yet in their existence. Darcy had a great draft with Myers, Ennis and Adam but he needs to continue to draft smart. It's not always about need but getting a player that can play at the nhl level. At least if he makes it their is always trade value over a guy like Zagrapan or Persson. I know the draft is very hard to know who will make it and who has the drive to succeed but that's where a team like Buffalo really needs to spend their time and really look hard at these kids in junior hockey or overseas.

Couldn't agree more. IF Darcy is just going to continue sticking with his "building from within" scheme he needs to do a better job at drafting NHL level talent in the early rounds. Persson looks like a bust, Zags was a def bust, Paille was traded, Novotny was traded, hell even Stafford looks like a bad pick at 13 with guys like Radulov, Zajac, Wolski and Mike Green going after him in the 1st round, not to mention the latter rounds. For the most part, Darcy has done well but we need more capable players in the system.
