From the Buffalo news article about the deadline deals...

"The Sabres' trade-day setback came when they couldn't locate an offensive blue-liner to anchor their power play.

"We looked at three different players out there," Regier said. "In one case the price was just way too high. One player did not get moved. So we tried, but in the end the availability wasn't there."

I'm betting that the player who's price was too high was Joe Corvo. Washington gave up a roster d-man (Pothier), a minor league forward, and a 2nd rd pick. Seidenberg was probably the other player, who went to Boston in a package deal. I wonder who the other player was that didn't get moved. I hope it was Kurt Foster, but that TB didn't want to sell when they are so close and desperate to make the playoffs.

The player who's price was too high might have been Kaberle, too.

The player who didn't move was most likely Dan Hamuis.

Hamilton believed the player who cost to much was Corvo.

the player who did not move i'd say was either kaberle or hamhuis. (i'd think kaberle would consider buffalo as a destination as he can offer his guidance to young myers, gragnani, sekera, and really wouldn't have to move his family as we are only an hour away if you drive like my friend meg, or an hour and a half - two hours max driving otherwise. Hamhuis did not want to move. heck they'd all probably come at a high price.)

Ya, prob Corvo too high, and Edmonton balked on Staffy-Gilbert. There really wasn't many great deals out there for him. Most of the deals were probably done on future considerations, unless the price was too high. That's one advantage of being a frequent trader is that you earn future considerations, and they seem to be becoming VERY important as trading is less frequent, and the tolerances tighter.

Hamhuis isn't a puck moving defenseman, is he? I thought he was a stay at home guy.

If that's the case, I don't think he was someone Darcy considered.

Not really. Gets about 30 points a year. He's got about 18 this year.

I think they were shooting high and hoping to get Kaberle.

But who do you put him with? You aren't breaking up Myers/Tallinder. He's a top 4 guy, so you put Kaberle with Rivet?

How much more do you like this team with ...

Myers/Tallinder
Rivet/ Kaberle
Lydman/Montador or Butler or Sekera?

It's hard to sneak time on the boards at work quietly when you post shit like this. I laughed so hard - good work :)
