"President Obama today signed an executive order banning federal funding for abortion, as he had promised to anti-abortion Democrats. But even though the health care bill is signed, sealed and delivered, Republicans across the country are plotting a strategy to repeal it by challenging the law's constitutionality in court."

Dear lord I am sooooo confused.

The XO was part of a deal to secure votes for the bill in the House. The Repubs have no problem with this order.

The lawsuits are surrounding the mandate requiring individuals to purchase health insurance.

So they were talking about repealing the HC bill, not the abortion one?

The executive order and the airport funding was for Bart Stupak's vote.

Too bad an executive order can be overturned by any president at any time or by any law passed by congress.

The executive order is only to reassure Democrats who don't know how to read the healthcare bill, which already conforms to the current law that does not allow public funding of abortions.

Personally, I don't know why abortions shouldn't be funded as any other legal medical procedure. There are plenty of things the federal government funds that I think are immoral, but I don't get a choice in opting out of paying.

Still, there you are...a redundent executive order that is nothing more than Obama holding the hand of Stupak and telling him that the government isn't going to do what it wasn't going to do before.

Be fair to him though Zilla...there were many Democrats fighting the language that eventually made it into the Senate Bill. There is a reason Stupak needed hand-holding. The NARAL and planned parenthood contingent is strong in the house.

/not that I really care about the issue

I would pay for someone else's abortion, if it kept a future miscreant off the street...just sayin.

Supporting the medical procedure of abortion isn't a subject I dable in, but I do agree with one thing here, the Health Care System, with this bill or not, should not be funding Abortions of choice.
Now, rape, incest, mother's health should all be considerations on this. No woman should be forced to have a baby if her health falls in jeopardy in my view.

As for abortions of choice, thats bullshit in my view, people need to be held to personal accountability for their actions, even women. To me anyways, its not a matter of baby killer or not, its a matter of responsibility that has to be placed with the parties that do the deed.

In my view, by funding abortions, the bill would have been promoting behavior that does not need to happen. Outside of the cases I mention above (and I may have missed a few others) the subject should be closed in my book.

So what does this mean? If a woman wants to have an abortion, her insurance will no longer cover it, and she will have to pay out of pocket for the procedure?

Republicans hate the idea of PAYING for anything. They WANT health care reform(supposedly), but bitch about the costs. Ya can't have it both ways.
