The attitudes of the rank and file of the Republican Party, according to a new Harris poll, are slipping into paranoia and mass hysteria. A March survey of Republicans shows:

67% believe President Obama is a socialist
57% believe the president is a Muslim
45% believe Barack Obama was not born in the United States and is not eligible to be president
38% believe the president of the United States is "doing many of the things that Hitler did"
and a mind-blowing 24% believe President Barack Obama is the antichrist!!!

Large numbers of Republicans also believe that President Obama is "racist," "anti-American" "wants the terrorists to win" and "wants to turn over the sovereignty of the United States to a one-world government."

Both parties have their share of fringe wingnuts, but the difference with the GOP is they they are turning the wacko fringe into the core of their party.

How are Republican legislators going to be able to work with the president on ANYTHING in a bipartisan fashion if 1/4 of their base believe he is the anti-fucking-christ, for god's sake? Are the white, male, southern Christian conservatives of this country so frightened of the changing demographics of America that they believe we are on the verge of a religious war simply because a black guy is president, a woman is in charge of foreign policy, and a "wise latina" is sitting on the Supreme Court?

Shame of the leadership of the GOP for pandering to these "hatriots."

Either way, I'm not convinced he's black. So there.

91% of these folks have no idea was socialism really means, other than their assumption that it's 'bad'.

Same here, but it's about the closest thing we're probably going to have to a black president, outside of David Palmer.

if you don't get the 24 reference; David Palmer is the name of the black president in the 1st two seasons

And Crazy left wing Nut jobs didnt think Bush was the anti-christ? right... anyways, point being not many people are happy with the president so they will say stuff to make themselves feel better... every group does it when their side isnt in office...

And in reference to the Obama is not american... ok well... when the republicans demanded proof that he was a US citizen they never did receive the proof... idk if you ask me seems suspicious that they threw that under the rug... im not saying he is or is not American but some reassurances would have been nice... is that wrong? no...

Doesnt Obama have a muslim background? Doesnt mean he IS muslim, but mis-informed people will prolly think that he is a muslim if they didnt get the facts straight because having a muslim background can easily turn into he is muslim... cuz he didnt ever define what he was if he is anything at all.

Just saying.

No offense, but I personally wouldn't use Facebook as a representative sample.

I have a friend who's entire family are staunch Republicans. Somehow, they're members of pro-Obama groups AND 'Obama is not a citizen' groups at the same time.

Yeah, Republicans are scary, delusional and dangerous and independents are breaking right in mass numbers as we speak.

Deal with it.

The left had plenty of anger at Bush...we're just too educated and not superstitious enough to have to bring 'the devil' into it.

I'm not religious at all, but you're being a douche.
EDIT: you're also not helping your cause.
