Miller is playing like Miller, hecht is scoring, pominville is opening an adoption center for new borns, the rest of the boys are skating hard, and the defense is shutting people down, the rookies are playing hard, and as far as im concerned, stafford can wear a suit untill further notice, ennis is the new briere, and even gerbe looks better, im really getting pumped and i think if we can just show a little more toughness, we can beat anyone, im getting that 07 fever again!....HERES TO THE CUP BABY!!!

Won 7 of last 8.. Learned how to score (5 on 5 and on the PP).. Great passing, everyone on the EXACT same page, most guys are playing their best hockey of the season.. We're ready for the playoffs!!!

...just need to get rid of Stafford. He's the only one not buying in or feeling energized by the rookies.

That's because he knows he's going to lose his roster spot once Connolly and Vanek come back.

He's not stepping up. He's playing uptight.

I think this is how we would've looked in in 04/05 if there was a season. Obviously with a little more offense and a slightly less "Miller-like" Miller. I think the next two-three seasons will be our new window to win a cup. Miller in his prime, a seasoned Myers, Kennedy/Gerbe/Ennis hitting their strides.

Very exciting time to be a Sabres fan...

They are playing better, but I can't get too excited with the recent run. They are 7 out of 8, but four of those wins are against Florida and Tampa Bay (2 each). They have beaten Carolina, Montreal, and Boston and lost again to Ottawa. Not bad at all, but I want to see them beat good teams that are playing well. That might have to wait until the playoffs though. They play each division team one more time, NYR and NJ.

On the flip side, none of the eastern teams are playing very well right now. It's just another stretch of mediocrity for the eastern conference. That's a good thing for Buffalo if they can stay sharp heading in. How many times do we see it - the team playing the best hockey going into the playoffs is the team that succeeds, regardless of seeding. Washington looks like they just don't care right now. NJ and Pitt are looking pretty ordinary, and only Ottawa is dangerous to Buffalo after that. Things can change in a week, and I'm sure the better teams will bring their play up a notch come playoffs, but for now Buffalo looks to be as good as any team in the east. Being as good doesn't do much though, they have to prove to much of the fan base and the rest of the league that they are better and a legit Cup contender.

Yeah, we are! We could be really dangerous in the playoffs if we continue like this. Now all we need is the real Thomas Vanek to show up, and we're a real contender.

Connolly has had some success in the past during the playoffs as well.

I think Vanek will make an emergence when he comes back. He was showing glimpses before he was injured, and I bet he'll feed off of Roy and Kennedy's great play.

I'm just concerned where Ennis is gonna go when Connolly comes back. Ennis has been a beast. If it were up to me, I'd keep him on wing with Pommers and let Connolly center them and then see some real magic happen. Put Hecht on the 3rd line with Goose and Gerbe. Have the lines like this:

Kennedy-Roy-Vanek
Ennis-Connolly-Pominville
Hecht/Torres-Goose-Gerbe/Grier
Torres/Grier-Ellis/Mair-Kaleta
Stafford (his uninspired ass can watch us win a cup from the press box)

Seems kinda like a clusterfuck if we get everyone back healthy.

Exactly. When this whole injury "crisis" first hit us, i was really excited for Gerbe and Ennis, but more importantly i thought it put a lot of pressure on Drew Stafford's shoulders to be "the man" in pretty low circumstances, given we had wrapped up a playoff spot and had a lot of room on Ottawa. But, he's played like garbage. Everyone is stepping up right now. We are playing great hockey and great team hockey. I still see Stafford losing pucks, not backchecking and offensively wise, he's nonexistent. Since he just signed a nice deal last summer, you know he will be in the top12 come playoffs, it's just how the Sabres operate. But, if he struggles, i pray to god Ruff speaks up and they bring in Ennis into the lineup or Mair.

So since Staff is playing like garbage, but its his first year of a big contract, can we then reasonably expect him to bounce back next year? Not really defending his play, just curious. Have we not had other high paid players go through this same thing?

Man...now we're second in the east, 5th best goal differential in the league, feelin pretty good at the moment. Hopefully they can keep this up down the home stretch and actually make a splash in the playoffs.

True. We have a lot of players that have been there before, so I'm not worried about us being overwhelmed.

I would love to see what kind of chemistry Connolly and Ennis can come up with. Ennis>Stafford.

Idk if it's cup good because we have 2 rookies on the top 2 lines, but you never know. I'm sure we'll get at least a semi deep run this year which will give them good NHL post season experience and make them better next year. Either way though, this is going to be a good post season for us though, and miracles can happen ;)
