A doctor in my area (central Florida) posted this sign in his office:

If you voted for Obama...seek urological care elsewhere. Changes to your healthcare begin right now, not in four years.

Politics before patients - a true Republican.

Doctor tells Obama supporters: Go elsewhere for health care

I see nothing wrong with that at all.

I also doubt this is the last activist doctor we're going to hear about.

Really? Nothing wrong with healthcare professionals assertaining the political views of their patients before treating them? How about their religious views? I mean, why bother treating people who are only going to end up in hell anyway, if they don't belong to the right religious group? Or ethnicity or race? How about patients who attended rival colleges or who support different sports teams?

Do you really want politics factored into the doctor/patient relationship, Cross? Have you really consumed so much of the tea-flavored kool-aide that you don't see how fucked up this is? I would say the same if a doctor posted a similar sign about not treating supporters of Bush and his war against Iraq. Not everything comes down to small, narrow-minded, petty politics.

Did you READ the article?
He's not asking anyone their political views and he's not turning anyone away.

It is wrong Cross, Doctors take an oath, the Hippocratic Oath. It includes the very ethical. How is not ethical to treat a person based on political ideology? This doctor should have his license to practice medicine revoked in my opinion.

Regardless of ones stance on issues of any nature, the very one sentiment everyone should find common ground is the compassion to all good standing citizens.

As far as him not asking, he stating it on his office door. Thats just total BS to me.

It's on the front page of my local paper, so, yes, Cross, I did read the article. I will reiterate, do you really want politics factored into the doctor/patient relationship? Sure, he will treat anyone, but if you are a Democrat or a Obama supporter what level of trust are you going to have in a doctor who has already told you to go away? Do you really want to be thinking, 'am I getting less than the best care because the doctor disagrees with my politics or doesn't like the bumper stickers on my car?'

This is just plain wrong and he should be santioned by the AMA.

It's ethically a pretty poor choice. Even if he's not actually turning away patients, it still looks bad.

First of all he's a specialist, not a primary care physician.
Secondly, he's not turning anyone away so where's the ethical violation?

Funny, politics weren't involved in my medical decisions at all until the damn Democrats came along and are forcing me to buy insurance.
I blame you.

I'm not turning anyone away, I'm just posting a sign that says you should go somewhere else for care because of your political leanings.

I'm not calling anyone a douchebag...but if your username is _____, you should seek a personality transplant.

Alright, new way to skirt the COC!

Well, for the 45 million Americans get health care coverage through Medicare, and the 49 million low-income children, pregnant women, elderly persons, and disabled individuals who get Medicaid, and the 27+ million veterans who get their healthcare through the VA system, the politics of government run health care has been no big woop.

The knashing of teeth and rending of clothing by the tea party wackos over healthcare reform has been little more than a tempest in one of their little prop teacups.

The Health Care plan is saving my small business money, and giving my employees better coverage, so I'm not complaining.

That tells me is you have less that 50 employees and the ones you do have get crappy coverage now.
Because the baseline government requirement isn't "good" coverage.

Exactly.

And isn't most of the economy driven by small business?

Do you consider 50 employees a "large" business? Because when the government counts up "small business" statistics they go up to 100 employees.

If a small business has between 50 and 100 employees they will now be required to provide health insurance or pay a $2000 fine per employee.

That sounds like kicking small business in the nuts to me.

I can't think of any small businesses around me that employ more than 50 people off the top of my head.

...so they must not exist...

I can think of 5 of my friends that work for that size company right now.
Between 50 and 100 is a good size internet startup company...many of them save money by not providing insurance.

I don't care who you are - you can deny service to whomever you please. The hippocratic oath doesn't say you have to treat everyone (period); it says you have to treat every patient ethically.

I routinely tell perspective IT customers to find service from someone else - be it their attitude or beliefs, some people, I just DON'T want to work for. That's all.
