With both "Major" parties shitting the bed and generally engaging in more mud slinging then actual legislature, is it possible or even probable that a new party will spring up and force its way into the political circuit? I'm not going to count the tea party since I haven't heard anything good come out of it since it's, well, tea parties.

Or, does the American public as a whole care enough to start a political revolution that actually cares about its country?

I firmly believe Republicans and Democrats would never allow that to happen.
Not on a national level anyway.

They've got a nice racket going.

I think the only way it happens is if you get a jilted member of one party or the other that was very popular, running as an "independent."

As far as someone from the major third parties, it will never happen. The demotards and republitards (we are equal opportunity haters here) are too good at waging lawsuit wars to keep said parties off the ballots.

George Washington or someone said a two party system would be the demise of the United States.

George Washington commented on political parties in 1796 during his farewell speech. He did not say they would be the demise of the United States (after all, here we are 214 years later, the longest continuous constitutional democratic republic in the history of the world), but he did say:

"They [political parties] serve to organize faction, to give it an artificial and extraordinary force; to put, in the place of the delegated will of the nation, the will of a party, often a small but artful and enterprising minority of the community...they are likely, in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people, and to usurp for themselves the reins of government; destroying afterwards the very engines, which have lifted them to unjust dominion."

Everyone hates political parties, yet they still persist and will continue to persist as long as all we do is complain about them and don't actually do anything to make it different. We live in a society, afterall, where we do have the means to select who our leaders will be, yet, We The People continue to support the same system and the same types of politicians year in and year out.

I guess my only response is to offer the famous quote by the British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, who said in 1947, "Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time."

Was that irony? The Federalists, under Washington's Secretary of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton, became the country's first political party.

This is the first time in a long time Zilla that I have actually seen someone with a response, almost verbatim of what I would have said. Well done.

Can we organize a corporation and then run for president, seeing as corporations are now viewed as individuals and can contribute to political parties? I mean, I think we run the gamut of opinions; the board would be well served :)
