I don't care who you are - you can deny service to whomever you please. The hippocratic oath doesn't say you have to treat everyone (period); it says you have to treat every patient ethically.

I routinely tell perspective IT customers to find service from someone else - be it their attitude or beliefs, some people, I just DON'T want to work for. That's all.

Interpretation is everything, and since the inception of the oath, it has always, and will always be interpreted to render assistance to all in need as far as a doctor is concerned. There has never, not once, been any other meaning for the oath itself.

If you look into it closely across the span of history, the very reason this is will become known to you.

It's douchebaggy but I think people are going a little nuts over this.

The plain truth is he's a specialist and specialists don't really get walk-ups...they get referrals.
Where he's located is heavily Republican so that limits his odds of actually offending someone even more.

If he wants to artificially limit his business, that's 100% within his rights.

As much of a cockbag move as this is, he's well within his rights to do so. It's like a douchier version of "No shirt, no shoes, no service."

...still a cockbag move, though...

When I first saw that writing on his door, I immediately thought "Jeez, the dumbass can't even spell neurology and he still gets news coverage?"

I am politically more liberal than Barack Obama, who I enthusiastically voted for and continue to support even though he turned out to be the pragmatist that I knew deep down he really was when I voted for him. Yet, if my doctor (or specialist) put up a sign saying that he didn't want to treat Republicans or people who oppossed the healthcare bill or the president I would immediately walk out and never return.

Any doctor who would put up such a sign has seriously gotten his or her medical priorities messed up and is not someone I want treating me.

Or simple solution you dont tell him who you vote for and problem is solved. You dont HAVE to tell someone that you are a Democrat or a Republican... So why bother, if you see that sign, you just keep your mouth shut. What he doesnt know wont kill him.

As the article said, (not verbatim) "most people are really in support of it"...if half his patients say something about how they support it, and the other half says nothing, he's probably suspicious of the ones who dont comment on it at all.

He's a doctor, it is plain fucked for him to mix politics into it.

I can think of 5 of my friends that work for that size company right now.
Between 50 and 100 is a good size internet startup company...many of them save money by not providing insurance.

Okay, that is not what I said, Ed.

My point is, they aren't as numerous. And the companies that do exist at that size generally have the financial ability to provide health care.

They can adjust wages accordingly if they have to. Jobs with benefits don't pay as much as those without.

It boils down to this for me.

I get that it's your right to refuse service to someone, but there's no place for that in the medical field. Patients should feel comfortable with their doctors, and not have to worry that saying the wrong thing might somehow affect how the doctor treats them going forward.

I'ts just not a good idea in general, because if everyone pulled this crap, you'd have a fuck of a mess. Democrats pay double(haha, why not, it is HIS business isn't it). It's just a really flawed, stupid jackass thing for this guy to do. It really is that simple.

Patient: That fuckin Obama had his lips all over this area during the Health Care Reform Debate.
Doctor: Mr. Nelson, don't feel alone, I just saw a woman this morning from Louisiana with the same virus.
I'll tell you what I told her, GTFO of my office!
