The whole point is that compassion is a powerful thing as well as empathy. Understanding that everyone isn't perfect and that each one of us is capable of dark regrettable things is something that is just a fact of life. So this kid drank too much and acted like a moron....it happens. It's not right and sure as hell isn't acceptable but it also doesn't justify your final ju7dgment on him. It's not like he shot someone, robbed a corner store or raped a girl. He yelled at some people in the next room and was a dick. I've come across these meat head types in the military and other places and would loved to have seen someone shut them up with a good ass whooping but I never would have said "good riddance" (paraphrasing you) if the moron died. That's just over the line and chocked full of douche bagery. Be happy you're still here and have a bit of pity on someone who will never see another sunrise.

Irony, talking about whether I should have kids and what you think my parenting skills would be like is a stretch to say the least. I won't get offended and and get into some back and forth though. I don't have to, I already have a child that other parents and teachers rave about because they think she's so well behaved.

DF, I know he didn't rob anyone or worse, but I also didn't go out and publicly defame him or say disparaging things to his family or friends. I posted some semi-morbid humor on a random fan board. You can easily search and find much worse commentary attached to all of the stories covering this incident.

Read my posts again then. I'm not assuming anything about him, but it is simply self-evident that he was in the middle of reckless behavior which led to his death. I comment on the seemingly innocuous choices we make that can have consquences that were never imagined. People should think more and make better choices, even in the more mundane or usual scenarios that life presents. The decisions made (right or wrong) in those moments have very little to do with their overall character.

Generally "bad" people make a habit of bad choices, and vice-versa, but that is not my point. Think, be aware and respectful of yourself and others all the time, not just most or some of the time, or when someone or something tempts you with the more obvious of dubious choices. That could range anywhere from where and when I get drunk, to whether I go up an unsecure or inadequate ladder to work on my house. I owe it to those who care about me (yes, there are a few) to not do stupid or reckless things that could kill me. If I do, my friends and family have my permission to call me a dumbass at my funeral.

Glad you think of yourself with such high regard because by what you're typing I would have assumed you were an arrogant douche bag.

This sentence was interesting. I especially like the bolded part.

Yeah, but if you're gonna use an overly dramatic knock on someone (which I found HILARIOUS by the way) spelling is crucial. Im thinkin you meant "sweet nectar" and not "sweat nectar" cause thats just creepy

We don't know anything about this kid other than the last hour of his life, but yet we judge his death as the result of karma?

Please.

I'm sure he was a real piece of shit, being accepted into a Catholic school with very high character standards and all.

But hey, let's judge his entire existence over a couple media reports that may or may not be totally accurate.

HA! Been writing so many damn essays for class that I'm not even proofing stuff I write anymore. I once was with a group of people who found a love letter from this kid in highschool to some random girl. He said she "smells very sweat" .....at least I didn't do THAT...hahaha!

I expected this thread to go down like this.

I will say one thing. If he had been smoking pot instead of drinking, he wouldn't have been fighting with those kids next door. But that's neither here nor there.

You cannot compare this kid to those who get behind the wheel of a car and kill people, because that's not what he did.

Drinking alters your moods, and impairs yours ability to make good decisions. Everyone's done something out of character while drunk.

That's a very blanket assumption.

I watched a couple kids passing a joint in the parking lot of the bowling alley last week. (This is Niagara Falls; not an uncommon occurrence.) Three of them got into a fight inside the lanes about 2 hours later, and one was arrested.

Assuming that someone isn't belligerent just because they're stoned is a fairly false assumption to make.

I'm not saying smoking is a belligerence neutralizer.

But I've never seen anyone high get into it with another person, even when provoked.

My point is, looking at being drunk and being stoned comparatively, you're more likely to retain your values and character while stoned than you are while drunk.

Some people don't have good character, however, and they'll likely get into tussles just as often sober as they would stoned or drunk.

You may have not seen it, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. It's just irresponsible to say that he WOULDN'T have been in that situation had he been stoned instead of drunk.

Some people get mellow and relaxed when stoned. Some people get loud and obnoxious when the hit it.

Just like alcohol, everyone reacts differently.

So perhaps I took it too far by make the statement definite, but I have nothing to draw on this from outside of personal experience.

I'd argue your point in some other ways, but I don't want to highjack this thread, as I'm not going to be, "That guy," advocating cannabis.
