Well look at it this way.. i think you're giving the priests far to much credit. If you were a creep wouldn't you want a safety net? Like say a cross and whole region backing you that what you did didn't happen. These "men of the cloth" are not... I bet alot of them dont give 2 shits about what the preach the gospel, just as long as they go through the motions so they can get their sick fix. Then just because they say a few chants POOF instant forgiveness.. If you were pedophile why wouldn't you jump at the chance to become a priest, its easy access. Just my thought.

Sickening though.

I'd really like to think that someone wouldn't be this depraved. Maybe I just have too much faith in humanity, but I can't bring myself to believe that.

I'd have to think the same thing, but remember that John Wayne Gacy was a clown.

its fucked up, for sure. but if he repented, then you are absolved by catholic theory, i think. the religion is founded on forgiveness.

so im on the fence about this. on one hand, yes, its VERY fucked up. on the other, by Christianity, he is forgiven. the grey area, as horrific as it is, is massive.

my opinion, the church should forgive him, however, his duties are waived.

the judicial system, on the other hand, well, thats up to them to decide.

There is no grey area in this, or rather there ought not to be. He molested hundreds of children. He committed a crime. He should be tried and sent to prison. End of story, no arguing, no debating, no nothing.

no, but as a christian, i believe in forgiveness.

I know, laws of God before laws of men, blah blah blah. I do understand where you're coming from, I guess, given that my mother tried to raise me a Christian, but I just don't agree with it.

Can't I just punch you in the arm, call you a fag, and then buy you a beer?

I also believe in forgiveness but I do however believe in keeping offenders from having the ability to repeat their crime. I also believe in justice for victims and criminals. Covering their tracks, denying the crime and moving them to another church doesn't address anything when it comes to the crime.

Well, then dogmatically, we differ, but judicially, right on.

Pope John Paul II forgave the guy that shot him...he still did jail time but he was forgiven.

Well in that case we're kind of on the same page. Put them in jail, make them register as sex offenders, strip from them their position of authority...cool beans. When it comes to the religious moral bit of how you feel about them afterwards...well who am I to argue with your decision? I will personally still be feeling like they need to have their balls cut off but I'm a heathen and just roll like that.

Didn't he just get out of prison, like last year?

+1.

i really dont see how anyone could argue that they shouldnt go to jail. (not directed at anyone, just generally saying)

I'm waiting for someone to try and argue that he shouldn't, frankly.

This sentence is a prime example of why people need to know the difference between then and than.

Well in that case Phil, I don't think they SHOULD do jail time. I think they SHOULD be de-nutted by way of rusty farm equipment and then branded with a big old burned in weiner right to the forehead. Anything after that is up for debate.
