If I tried to sigh as hard as this warranted, I'd pull a muscle.

keep giving the all=star game to non hockey markets. maybe they'll like the weekend festivities and maybe attract a newer audience.

That crowd noise they play through the intercom system is just like there's actually people in attendance!

Because the NHL owners are the most fucking retarded shits ever.

The logic behind it is basically this:

But the fault is that no one really knows about the All-Star game unless they already follow hockey. And odds are that if they follow hockey, they don't really given a damn.

Second fastest growing area in the entire NA, plenty of Northern folks.

Every team should at least host it once in their lifetime.

Because you guys don't care for the Hurricanes, which this has nothing to do with, why hate on this idea.

I would never want to travel up North to attempt to see an All-star game or festivities. At least now I might be able to go watch the game and stuff depending on the price of it all.

And I think it's good for the NHL, attracts more people to the game in the non-traditional markets.

I thought everyone here was up for the game growing as a whole in the USA, if you only keep it to Northern markets you're basically telling the south to go fuck off, which isn't, and would be terrible for the league. The South is growing with plenty of people who like hockey, albeit might not be the home team, at least with a team near them they can see their favorite team and raise their kids into hockey lovers also.

Pointless game in a market that couldn't get out of the bottom ten in attendance the year after they won the cup. Great idea!

I'd like to go, but that's just to see Miller and Myers and whoever else gets voted in from the Sabres. The skills competition would be pretty fun to watch too.

Yeah... Down in the south a lot of people don't care for hockey... Why have the all-star game there?

I am, but hockey will never unseat football, basketball, and car racing in the South.

I know it won't, but hockey is getting bigger in the South, go to the South 20 years ago does anyone care one bit for any hockey?

Hockey will never unseat Football anywhere in the USA, unless the team is downright pitiful year in and year out, Baketball, more like College is huge here, but why wouldn't it be in Raleigh with three Div 1 schools who can compete for the NCAA championship year in and year out also.

And same with many other states in the South with big College programs, also Car Racing is just as big in the North as it is in the South, plenty of northerners like auto racing and NASCAR.

I'd much prefer to go to an F1 race over a hockey game also.

There weren't any teams in the south 20 years ago. Since they've received teams, every southern market has shown an inability to put butts in the seats.

I sincerely doubt the tv ratings in the north are equivalent those in the south for auto racing.

That is a pretty broad statement. Every southern market?

The Dallas Stars have been a very successful franchise. Over the last four years they have averaged almost 96% attendance, pretty close to the Sabres' attendance during the same period (which is inflated by the Winter Classic numbers). The Tampa Bay Lightning, in spite of being a pretty dismal team since they won the Stanley Cup, have averaged a quarter point shy of 90% during the same four year time period, and that includes this year's dismal 78.2% attendance (still better than the Sabres attendance in 2003 - 73.7%). The Lightning arena also seats almost 1200 more people than HSBC.

In general, I think Bettman's plan to force hockey on the South has been a failure. However, there are cities in the South (and West) where hockey can, and does, thrive.

CV, I doubt that also, 12 of the 29 NASCAR tracks are in the North BTW. There is also a reason auto racing is broadcast every Sunday throughout the nation.

NASCAR is just as big in the North.

No, its not. The ratings are higher in southern cities. I guarantee it, if I could find local ratings to back it up, I would, but it's just hot air for now.

I was trying to find them also, but you never know, plenty of people I knew from PA liked NASCAR, and plenty of people like it here, mostly a pretty even mix.
