Atlanta fired their coach and their staff today, including Randy Cunneyworth. Bring him to Sabres? He developed many of our current players, could he help this team?

Cunny is a head coach. I'm certain he'd rather be a head coach in the AHL rather than the NHL. Especially given his resume. If he wanted to come in and coach, we'd have to say good bye to McCutchen, or Patrick, and don't really see much of an upgrade there to be perfectly honest

When he first left us, I thought he was going for seasoning somewhere else - some system other than the Sabres. Then I figured he'd be back to take Lindy's job when he quit/contract was up.
Now I don't know what to think. Is he an improvement over our 2 assistant coaches? Or better than Dineen?

Does anyone know when Lindy's current contract is up? (I don't want him gone; I just want to know what I was thinking!) :shifty: :confusion-confused:

Of course Slava Kozlov was bitching that their team was poorly coached. Right Slava, its ALWAYS the coach's fault for when you suck.

the coaches in atlanta inherited a shit team. of course Anderson and Cunney wouldnt be able to turn a 180 in 2 seasons.

that being said, i hope cunney comes to buffalo in some form. he did coach most of our young talent in Rochester.

Cunnyworth had to deal with the Buffalo/Florida split while he was coaching the Amerks too, and he still was able to prepare a lot of the current Sabres roster for the NHL. Not too shabby. I always wanted the Sabres to bring him into the fold after they broke ties with Rochester. I still wouldn't mind it.

If he almost got Atlanta in the playoffs with that, bring him in.

The answer is yes...he would be better than James Patrick coaching the PP. They took those responsibilities away from McCutcheon.

Granted about 75% of the problem on our PP is the lack of a heavy shot from the point, but the other 25% is just poorly drawn up or executed plays.

I don't think there's a team in the league that gives up more odd man rushes on their own PP than the Sabres, many night's it's about 1 per PP.

Speaking of Teppo, what's he up to?
Was he a regular on our PP?

Teppo is currently enjoying his retirement with his wife and girls in Clarence. He was Team Suomi's NHL scout prior to the Olympics (Jarri Kurri asked him personally to do it). I figure Teppo will get the coaching itch, and I'd love to see him as our new defense and PK assistant coach.
