all rust belt cities need to find a niche to capitalize on. like grand rapids is the centre of the medical universe right now. that city is HOPIN. buffalo needs to find its niche. as does detroit (auto industry can only carry you so far)

michigans troubles are michigans fault, we simply relied on the auto industry too much.

Leafs and Habs fans are the worst. I was walking to my car, and these Leafs fans drive slowly next to me and flip me off, yell "YOU SUCK" and other names (I couldn't make the words out), and I didn't even have time to pick up a rock and throw it at them. Pisses me off they have to be so cowardly.

Well, and this is a big if, Buffalo will have a hoppin tourist scene down by the arena is the casino can get finished and join the new CanalSide development. HSBC Arena, casino, shopping, harbors, Bass Pro (ugh, but whatever), museums, residential quarters, and more.

There's also the booming biotech scene that Buffalo could be hopping on, and a lot of renewable energy developers who want to make Buffalo the greenest-powered city in the north east. Also, a lot of green energy companies want to use the old auto plants to manufacture things like windmills and such.

Not only that, but just north of us is another Great Lake. It is totally strange.

One of the greatest joys of sport is giving it to fans of the other team.

I agree. I was going back and forth with a Rangers fan at the division clinching game last Tuesday. It was so much fun. I save the trash talk until we're winning.

At UB today, I saw the following:
Pittsburgh Penguins: 1 jersey
Ottawa Senators: 1 shirt and 1 jersey
Detroit Red Wings: 1 jersey

Laughed at every single one of them!

They are 3 strong teams.

So i live in New England....The area of course is all Boston sports fans - Sox, Celtics, Pats, and Bruins....

Well today I put on my Sabres shirt and cap, and went shopping....I visited a pizzeria, Sears, Target, Walmart, and a grocery store similar to Tops.....I also went to my insurance company, and stopped by a roadside spring to fill up some water jugs....total time was about 2 & 1/2 hours....

guess how many comments I got from Bruins fans ?

how about none ? zip, zero, nada, nothing.....

Tell me if I went to all these places in Buffalo in Bruins gear that i wouldn't get at least ONE comment !

I wore my yankees hat in Boston last year. Same result. I was shocked.

I'm thinking about setting up a roadside stand (kinda like a lemonade stand), but instead of selling lemonade, I'll sell tissues for Bruins fans 8-)

I'll give people some comments if I see other Jerseys of teams that suck.

I'll mention to them I also am a Sabres fan especially Leafs jerseys.

At my future in law's bachelor party, the Maryland natives were giving me shit about my Sabres cap mainly since they thought I was a Bills fan. All of them are mainly football fanatics. They pull for the Capitals which is fine since its the home team but they really don't know hockey.

One guy tried to get under my skin by stating "I did a research project on how the Bills should move to Toronto" with this pompous laugh. So my reply basically was "That's a crock of shit and I'm a Jets fan. Nice try attempting to annoy me". Seemed to ruin his night.

First of all, it's kinda funny that you've decided people of a MAJOR city aren't great fans just because the few that you ran into, didn't make a stupid comment about your Sabres gear. WTF?

Second, it's been my experience, having lived in several major metro areas, that people have so much other shit going on, various sports teams and such, that they don't have all their eggs in one basket and get all funked up over one-single thing. Whereas here in Bufftown, it's the Sabres, the Bills......and what else? The waterfront? Elmwood Ave? Not many things to focus on here outside of the Sabres.

What kind of jabberwocky is this? Spend 10 minutes walking around downtown Boston. You'll hear at least 5 people having a conversation about the Red Sox. In January.

Boston residents are just as psychotic about the Sox as we are about the Sabres, and they clearly have a lot more to do in that town.

(Oh, and BTW, please don't start with the whaaa there's nothing to do in WNY. There's PLENTY to do if you spend 5 minutes thinking about it.)

Oh, and speaking of Boston, I was wearing my Rivet jersey around the Back Bay area at the end of March, and I took some heat for it from plenty of random folks. I texted Phil about it, he knows I wasn't bullshitting.

(Can you tell I REALLY don't like discussions about what team has better fans? All of us fans are nuts, end of story.)

It was nice to read an FB status update that someone (one single person) at PAX East did yell out a cheer at you, though :)

Let's be honest:

There are plenty of SABRE FANS who'll bust your balls for wearing a Rivet jersey!

There are times during games where I'd swear Lindy is looking around hoping to spot a Rivet jersey in the section near the bench so he can *accidentally* send it some fan instead of Rivet. How much worse could the fan be? I bet Lindy would even hold the guy's beer 'til the end of the shift.

All true fans of a team are douche bags basically.

All of them give you some comment if you're wearing your team or something.
