I'm glad to see Gerbe go down. I don't think he is ready yet.

Haha on facebook some idiots are trying to say Lydman sucks and Myers sucks.

I like this place to talk hockey better because you guys actually know what you're talking about.

I think when Mair comes back whoever is playing crappily gets benched, or they will send Kennedy back down.

But Myers will no matter what this year stay and play 10 games with Buffalo before he would go anywhere.

With all due respect, there's no way in hell they send Kennedy down for Mair. He's on a line with Pominville and MacArthur.

As long as he keeps up that level of play, Ruff's got him here for the long haul.

I think there's an outside chance that Myers would be sent back to juniors after 10 games, but I don't think it will happen.

The only reason to send him down would be money. The '10 game rule' basically is contract related. If he plays 9 games and then goes back to juniors, then this season does not 'count' against his contract. IE, he starts in camp next year in the 1st year of his contract.

If he plays that 10th game, and THEN goes back to juniors, he'd come into camp next year starting the 2nd year of his deal.

He's clearly too good for juniors, and not AHL eligible, so in my eyes, he ain't going anywhere.

I from everything thought it was play in up to ten games and be fine, after that 10th game, say he plays 11 he is here to stay, time to research this shit, because how I've read it it sounds more like he plays ten games and can still be sent down.

And PSP, I said Mair, not Myers.

I'll have to double check it when I have the time, could be the 11th game, not 100% sure. Been a while since I read that section.

I don't know where it is or where to find it, I've always just heard they can play in 10 games before their contract would officially kick in.

Sorry, that's what I meant. I meant Mair.

Kennedy and Mair aren't competing for spots.

Here:

What are rules governing junior hockey players in the NHL?

"The start of the NHL season.
A junior-aged player who is not signed to an NHL contract by this time must return to his junior team (the official deadline is usually a day or two before the opening games). That player is essentially gone for the year. He is not eligible to return to the NHL until his junior team's season is over.

The 10-game mark.
A junior-aged player with a contract can play up to nine NHL games as a trial period. If he is returned to junior before the tenth game, his contract is effectively put on hold: when he goes to training camp the following season, he will be in the first year of his contract.
Once the player appears in his tenth NHL game, his contract kicks in. He can still be returned to his junior club after that. But at season's end, a full contract year will expire.

The 40-game mark.
This is when the clock starts ticking on a player's free agent status. Under the 2005 collective agreement, a player are eligible for unrestricted free agency after seven years in the NHL. But if he returns to junior hockey before playing 40 NHL games, the season does not count as an "accrued season," which means it doesn't count towards free agency eligibility.

So an 18-year-old rookie who plays at least 40 NHL games can become an unrestricted free agent at the age of 25. An 18-year-old who is returned to junior hockey before game 40 will not be eligible for free agency until he's 26. (Assuming both go on to become NHL regulars every season after that.)"

I'm going to hold in my excitement for a while because Lindy already said Myers might not even make opening night roster as a starter. He better make it, he's better than all but two of our defensemen (Rivet and Butler) at this stage in his development.

'Grats for Kennedy and the big chance he's being given. A hot start for the youngin' could mean a permanent spot. 'Grats to Myers, too, even though I'm nervous about him because he's so much easier to demote.

Kennedy is showing a better instinct and understanding for the game than is Gerbe. He has gone from someone I saw as no more than a minor - league to fringe NHL'er to someone who might be good enough to play a regular role.

Mind you, it's only preseason, so I won't get too far ahead of myself yet.

Ditto Myers; let's see nine games of regular season from him before we annoint him an immediate impact player. Tremendous bonus if he can play this year though, no doubt.
