But that still doesn't explain how you can read the other posts.

I don't unless I make an effort, too. I'll make split-second glances at posts. I have my laptop on the coffee table so I can keep an eye on the TV as I read posts at the top of my page.

This is my set-up (and ugh what a horrible moment to take a snap )

Hmmm... Maybe that explains why I don't get into GDTs. I don't particularly care to write something no one is going to read. I prefer conversations. I can talk to myself in my own head.

That's cool. Glad to see the "lol" in there because now that I think about it, my last post there might sound mean. I guess what I meant is I like talking to you all and I'd rather focus my posting on that.

Tough to win those arguments though.

You'd be surprised at how good I am at it. I almost always win.

Well thank goodness for tabbed browsing, or I could never follow games.

So I wanted to start a topic on game day threads. GDTs are extremely popular to many of you. I see the large numbers of people signed in most every game. But I myself rarely participate in them.

My purpose here is to ask you guys how you do it. I've tried to post in GDTs here and there, but I've found it very hard to even keep up with the threads (they move so fast), much less participate in the GDT and pay attention to the game. Doesn't it take away from your focus, and thus your enjoyment of the game?

Now I'm no stranger to multi-tasking. I do it often, and often am on the computer playing poker while watching a hockey game. But I'll be the first to admit that my attention gets divided and I often miss parts of the game that I have to rewind and watch again (I'm a DVR junkie).

My theory on multi-tasking is that while it is possible to do more than one thing at once, when you do multi-task, you're really only able to pay attention to one thing at a time, and are doing the other without thinking about it. For example, as a musician, I often play my bass and sing at the same time. But really, I am only thinking about one or the other while I do this, and I am doing the other from rote muscle memory. So I'm say, thinking about singing, but just automatically playing guitar.

Well, isn't that what happens to you all posting in GDTs while watching the game? How can you type your comments without taking your attention away from the game? I understand that paying close attention to every second of 82 games isn't too realistic. But for important games like the playoffs, or the Olympic gold medal game, do you really think you're doing justice to the game if you're constantly typing and hitting refresh?

This is something I've wondered about for a while. What are your thoughts frequent GDT posters?

Oh, it's realistic. :)

Not exactly as it happens, but with a DVR you can. To think you'd never be involved in a conversation, or need to go to the bathroom at some point isn't realistic.

Depends on the game, if it's a slower grind it out, 1-0 or 2-1 game, my posts become more frequent due to less action. If it's a fast paced or high scoring game, my posts become less frequent.

I, unfortunately, live and die for the strategy and player chemistry side of hockey. I have a strange fetish for coaching, and general management duties. Anybody here, that also knows me outside of the boards can tell you; if you sit me down to talk hockey, you're staying there for a long while. I guess I'm a student of the game so to speak.

I often get lost in GDTs until a whistle is blown, or I feel the need to curse out a player for being a moron. *Stafford*

I understand your point Stu, and agree with it a bit. It is tough to be an active participator in a GDT and give full attention to the game.

I think you and I watch the game with a similar style. Absorb all of what happened, find people's mistakes, and successes, and then make comments about it. I honestly could probably just sit there and make a 3-5page post after every game, instead I kind of space that post out in GDTs, after the whistles and at intermissions.

Well, if your avatar wasn't smashing a bottle on her head while she rants down the hall perhaps people wouldn't be so afraid to talk to you!
