If you follow English Premier League soccer in the British press one of the unusual things you will notice (unusual for Americans anyway) is that writers and commentators will often talk about whether or not the winning team "deserved" to win. I guess they figure that sometimes the final score doesn't tell the whole story, which can be the case in soccer where scoring is a rarity.

So, in that vein, did the Sabres beat themselves or did the Bruins hand it to us?

Meh. Boston deserved to win. They carried the play, and finished their chances.

We fucking lost, I dont mind losing to a team that is better and only won not because we were lazy but they had a better team. We have the better team easily but they gave up after Vanek went out. We need our top guys (Roy, Timmy, and Pommers) to step up in a time like this but they played worse. Torres was great last game but today he was awful. Ellis and Gaustad were our best forward, what the fuck does that say?

That seemed to suck the life out of the team.

Boston won. Their defense in front of the net was very good. I made remarks about it during the game.

Four weirdo deflection goals, one on a high stick zone entry that was never called. Fluke win. The Flyers did it twice in 06 and the Isles did it in 07. The only way boston can win this series is if they hack half our lineup onto the IR. Fuck them.

I couldn't agree more. This is more reason why the Sabres could use another two offensive scorers with some size.

I've heard a lot of people claiming that Bostons fourth and game winning goal was a result of a hand pass and should not have been allowed. I haven't rewatched the highlights so I dunno if it's true or not. Did any of you guys see it?

Buffalo lost the game, they thought they had the game in the bag when it was 2-0. Vanek's injury is a excuse if you ask me, the offense was good all year when vanek was having an off year. Also other guys have to step up especially Roy, Pominville and Connolly, all of those mentioned were basically invisible in this afternoon's game

Yup, Grier isn't a goal-scorer, or a 1st line player. Not to mention he was double-shifting at his age. It wasn't the loss of Vanek that sucked the life out of us, it was the 13 man bench.

13 man bench? How many injuries did we have.

One, plus 6 guys on the ice=20.

it was 2 different games. buffalo was roaring, and rask looked human. then he put up his wall, and buffalo just sucked in the third. boston really bogged down defensively.

Basically.

Two goals that where lucky to bounced off the stick and go straight to the open man, one that went high in the air behind Miller, and one off of our players stick.

Oh well though, can't expect to sweep the series now can we?

In layman's terms, we looked normal without our star forward, and a shortened bench. You can call it a team sport, but we learned how good our team is when Miller is down. The playoffs are hard enough w/o playing under these conditions. They could say the same about Savard, but I think Vanek is bigger to us overall(and maybe only because Miller gives u s a legit chance). It also magnifies the losses of the German and Helen.

I had no idea excuses for losing are legit. If the refs job you fine, but we just didn't have enough to win.

I suppose I could have said 19 man. Would have been simpler.
