Anyone here who expected him to be suspended, raise your hand?

That's what I thought.

Yeah, it's a joke. You KNOW that if Chara gave Goose a little whack, and he threw a punch, he's have been gone.

I didn't expect anything less from the NHL. Selective discipline 101.

We didn't NEED a suspension of Chara though.

All we had to do was give Chara's face the business at the bottom of that pile.

Besides, he was -2 yesterday and took 17 PIM. He is obviously frustrated now, watch him take more dumb penalties if we go up early next game. And even if he doesn't, it's pretty clear his defense isn't much of a match for us.

I actually have (very shakey) video that I took during the game of the beginning of that altercation. You can see Gaustad slashing Chara from behind, then Chara turning and punching him.

THAT is no doubt a mitigating factor in the eyes of the league. If the tables were turned, what would you say?

Sure, but there are reasons why that happened. Such as Chara playing like an asshole the whole series

Yes, that is what their excuse would be but if the rolls were reversed and it was say Kaleta who took a slash from Chara, turned and then started to punch him, Kaleta would have been suspended before he left the ice.

IF the tables were turned.... Goose would be out for Game 6... plain and simple.... heck should Boychuck have been playing after the hack-a-vanek?

seriously? chara had sabres players backing off all game. he literally scared them into getting too close several times. this statement is pretty absurd.

What game were you watching? The Sabres were showing no fear in charging ahead when Chara was in their path. They were even liberal with their hitting against him. Now that Lindy figured out what player to send in on the forecheck when Chara is retrieving the dump-in, he's been much less effective.

there were several points yesterday when chara was behind the net, and the sabres literally stopped in their tracks. even the CBC guys noted "the sabres are scared to go into a corner with chara!"

chara is an intimidation force and factor, and hes certainly been a major player this series.

If not chasing Chara around produces a 4-1 victory every time, then I fully support their cowardice.

im not arguing. im just saying someone saying chara is ineffective and his defense cant handle buffalo is wrong.

you know what sucks the most about this series? it could be over, a 4-1 buffalo victory. instead we have our backs to the ropes.

regardless, i still have a pretty good feeling about everything.

I saw the replay, it was hard to tell if Gaustad's stick even hit Chara. Either way, it's a love tap.

Umm I think only Goose would be the only person to be able to win a fight in the corner with Chara, if Chara has the puck already no need to try and take it away, back off of him, if he doesn't have it yet, you go in with a full head of steam and you're a faster player so you should get there first.

It's really not an intimidation factor. A 5'10 forward can't outmuscle a guy who has a foot on them and 60 pounds, that just doesn't happen, so why waste energy doing that?

Just saw an interesting set of clips on the news:

Lindy saying: "They called it an instigator" [so he should be suspended]

Rivet saying: "He shouldn't have been suspended" [Chara was just blowing off steam at the end of a game]

Lindy isn't accounting for the "mitigating factor" with the instigator rule, which allows the league to rescind any suspension based on, among other things, the score, the time left, other incidents, specifics of the situation, etc.

Gotta agree with Rivet. It wasn't an insitgation in the spirit of the rule.

In total fairness, that was a pretty weak instigator call.

I'm certainly not going to lose any sleep over the lack of a suspension, although that would have made some GREAT theater. :p

Chara fights like a fucking woman. Half his fights are over in 5 seconds because he just takes the guy to the ice. Matt Fucking Barnaby fought Chara to a draw giving up 8 inches and nearly 70 pounds.

Puh-leeez.

He's kicked the asses of some of the biggest guys in the league. Don't even go there.

Really, there's no shortage of these.

If I was a 6'9" NHL player, I think I would end fights as quickly as possible too. I'm not paid to box.

But a pussy Chara ain't. Maybe I missed it, but I haven't heard him complain about being tackled by THREE Sabres in rapid succession.
